Nutritional Psychiatry Explained ⬇️ ✨Discover how nutrition affects mental health and promotes overall well-being: 1. Diet influences brain function and food High-quality foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants nourish the brain and protect it from oxidative stress. 2. The gut-brain connection Approximately 95% of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood, is produced in the gastrointestinal tract. A healthy gut microbiome supports emotional well-being, while an unhealthy diet can disrupt this balance. 3. Emergence of Nutritional Psychiatry Nutritional psychiatry is a growing field that examines the relationship between diet and mental health. It recognizes that food choices affect not only physical health but also mood and behavior. This approach emphasizes the importance of dietary patterns in managing mental health conditions. 4. Recommendations for a Brain-Healthy Diet Consume Whole Foods: Emphasize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Limit Processed Foods: Reduce intake of refined sugars and processed items. Support Gut Health: Include probiotics & fiber-rich foods for a healthy microbiome. Stay Hydrated: Adequate water intake is essential for optimal brain function. 5. How Nutrition for Longevity Can Help We offer meal plans that support these recommendations, making it simple to provide your brain with the nourishment it needs. At Nutrition for Longevity Inc., we believe that Food is Medicine—and that access to nutrition services should be expanded, not restricted. These proposed changes risk disrupting care for vulnerable populations and undermining decades of progress in preventative health. We urge policymakers to protect and strengthen Medicaid, Medicare, and nutrition programs that support health equity and chronic disease prevention. 🗣️ Let’s raise our voices to ensure nutrition remains a pillar of healthcare. #FoodIsMedicine #NutritionPolicy #HealthEquity #MedicalNutritionTherapy #SNAP #SchoolMeals #NutritionForLongevity #PreventativeHealth
⚠️ Update: We now have FOUR Action Alerts out! ⚠️ ✅ All four are open to members, non-members and the public, so please hit repost to spread the word. 🤝 1️⃣ Protect Access to Nutrition Care and Federal Nutrition Programs: https://lnkd.in/g5_z8vNV 👉 Congress is moving forward with budget reconciliation legislation that could significantly impact access to health care and nutrition programs. Proposals advancing in the House would affect Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and school meals—putting patient access and provider stability at risk. 2️⃣ Tell Congress to Oppose Changes to SNAP and School Lunch Program: https://lnkd.in/ecvTYpfa 👉 Leaders in Congress are developing legislation that would make changes to a variety of federal policies. As a part of this process, these leaders are considering how to offset costs through revisions to other federal programs, including SNAP and the National School Lunch Program. 3️⃣ Protect SNAP-Ed: https://lnkd.in/eenMJJQF 👉 The House of Representatives passed the One Big Beautiful Bill and among its provisions is a measure that eliminates the legislative foundation of the National Education and Obesity Prevention Grant Program, commonly referred to as SNAP-Ed. 🆕 Protect the CDC’s Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention programs: https://lnkd.in/eNjJa-6w 👉 The legislation in the One Big Beautiful Bill as passed would result in the elimination of the CDC’s Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention programs, including State Physical Activity and Nutrition (SPAN), High Obesity Program (HOP), and Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) programs. 🔗 Learn about each one and take them all at https://lnkd.in/eZabezan! #eatrightPRO #dietetics #RDN #NDTR

It’s World IBD Day! 💜 World IBD Day unites people worldwide in their fight against Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, known as inflammatory bowel diseases. It is important to remember that people with IBD may have different experiences with food, and it does not affect everyone in the same way. As seen in the post, certain foods have been found to decrease inflammation and should be increased in one's diet: Omega-3s, vegetables, thoroughly cooked starches, and cooked and chopped/blended leafy greens. Our meal plans are jam-packed with anti-inflammatory ingredients - give a kit a try today! What health concerns are women largely facing? ⬇️ For this National Women's Health Week, three important areas of women's health are being observed: menopause, mental health, and cancer. Facts: More than 1 million women in the United States experience menopause each year. Women are nearly twice as likely as men to experience major depression. Women younger than 50 are nearly twice as likely to develop cancer as men in the same age range. As pioneers in the nutrition and longevity realm, we want to remind all women of the importance of caring for physical, mental, and emotional well-being at every stage of life. One 'easier said than done' way includes our diet! Eating a healthy, balanced diet that supports women's health can take some practice. At Nutrition for Longevity, we provide delicious meals that help balance hormones and promote ovarian longevity, and are a great start when developing a new habit, like changes to our dietary patterns.
