Last month marked 10 years of Nava— a decade of working to make government services simple, effective, and human-centered. I’ve had the privilege of being part of this mission for nearly 3 of those years. In that time, I’ve not only grown professionally, but I’ve also built lasting friendships and found a community of people who care deeply about designing systems that actually work for the people they’re meant to serve. I’m grateful for the work we do and the people I get to do it with. 💙 Here’s to 10 years of impact—and the many more to come!

Learn from Nava how data sharing can help identify potentially eligible individuals, ease the income verification process and even reduce fraud. https://buff.ly/sFq3a8o

Our Chief Delivery Officer, Jodi Leo, just published a piece in Route Fifty on expanding access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)! Over the past few years, millions of potentially eligible people are leaving SNAP benefits on the table. Jodi suggests that the key to closing this coverage gap lies in strong data sharing practices, which can help federal and state agencies identify potentially eligible individuals, ease the income verification process, and even reduce fraud. Recently, New Mexico saw an 18% increase in enrollment in the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) after the project team developed a data-sharing tool between the state’s SNAP, Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and WIC agencies. In Vermont, an API-first approach helped integrate the enrollment and eligibility processes for its 37 health care and financial benefit programs. In a matter of months, they reduced the number of days it took to provide an eligibility determination to SNAP applicants by 44%. Integrated eligibility and modern APIs aren’t just technical upgrades — they’re a path to better benefits delivery and government infrastructure that’s resilient, adaptable, and human-centered. Great news coming out of Nava Labs! We’re happy to announce that we’re partnering with the Goodwill Central Texas and Goodwill Keystone in Pennsylvania to pilot an #AI-powered resource referral tool with caseworkers as part of a grant from the Gates Foundation. This tool aims to make it easier for Goodwill staff to refer clients to a range of other health and social services beyond what’s offered at the organization.
