Through our colleague conversation series, A Better Understanding: Building Connections Through Conversations, we provide a forum for insightful and inspiring discussions with thought leaders around the most relevant societal topics.   This week, our very own Maly Bernstein hosted trailblazing ballerina, author and advocate Misty Copeland for a heartfelt discussion about how she broke barriers in the arts and is championing the next generation.   A huge thank you to Maly and Misty for sharing their perspectives and experiences with our teams!

I recently had the privilege of sitting down with Misty Copeland as part of Macy's, Inc.'s A Better Understanding series, and the conversation was nothing short of extraordinary. Misty’s story — rising to become the first African American female principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre — is a testament to resilience, vision, and the power of representation. What struck me most was not just her grace and discipline, but her commitment to using her platform to open doors for others. We had the chance to talk about her journey, her passions off-stage, and what drives her — and we had a lot of fun along the way. It was a joy getting to know the person behind the powerhouse. As a leader, I’m reminded that true impact comes from lifting others as we lead — Misty embodies that beautifully. So grateful for the opportunity to learn from her 🙌🏽✨

We mourn the loss of industry visionary, philanthropist, and arts patron Leonard Lauder, whose kindness and generosity made the world more beautiful in so many ways. It was truly a privilege to call him not only a partner, but also a long-standing friend of Macy's, Inc. From all of us at Macy’s, Inc., he will be greatly missed. Mental health, identity and community took center stage at Macy’s Herald Square during our recent event Unfiltered in partnership with NextShark, a nonprofit amplifying AAPI youth voices.   More than 100 attendees—including Gen Z creators, advocates and influential voices like Michelle Phan, Tayshia Adams and more —joined us for powerful conversations and meaningful connections. Guests also enjoyed interactive beauty activations—mini makeup touch-ups, skincare tips, and fragrance testing. A huge thank you to all our colleagues who played a role in creating this transformative space for dialogue and empowerment. Together we're shaping a culture that supports mental wellness for everyone.
