Following a number of warning letters in June, the FDA is now recommending that 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) be scheduled under the Controlled Substances Act. The administration is "specifically targeting 7-OH" — a highly potent opioid alkaloid derived from kratom. These products, often sold as gummies, shots, and drink mixes, pose serious risks to consumers and are not legally permitted as dietary supplements, foods, or approved drugs. From a LegitScript perspective: ✅ For Marketplaces: This means proactively removing 7‑OH and kratom listings and enforcing stricter merchant vetting. ✅ For Payment Providers: It means refusing CNP payments for merchants selling 7‑OH products, categorizing them as prohibited, and monitoring transactions closely. ✅ For Consumers: It’s about preventing exposure to dangerous and unapproved products. Enforcement is ramping up and 7-OH products and sellers are in the crosshairs.
