🚨 Major Federal Tax Changes Signed Into U.S. Law On July 4, 2025, President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA)—a federal tax overhaul that locks in many TCJA-era provisions while introducing new rules impacting individuals, businesses, and investments. Key highlights: ✅ Individual Tax Provisions - TCJA tax brackets and enhanced standard deduction made permanent - SALT deduction cap raised to $40,000 (adjusted for inflation through 2029) - Child tax credit increased to $2,200 and fully indexed for inflation - New $6,000 senior deduction (2025–2028) - Above-the-line deduction for charitable donations by non-itemizers - New deductions for reported tips, overtime, and U.S.-assembled vehicle loan interest 🏢 Business Incentives - 100% bonus depreciation is back and permanent - Section 179 limit raised to $2.5 million - R&D expensing restored, with retroactive relief for small businesses - New first-year depreciation for manufacturing real estate - Expanded QBI phase-in thresholds + minimum deduction for active business owners 🔌 Energy Credits Sunset - EV and home energy credits begin phasing out after 2025 📄 Reporting Thresholds - 1099-K threshold reverts to $20K/200 transactions - General 1099 threshold raised to $2,000 starting in 2026 There’s a lot to consider, especially for pass-through entities, manufacturers, and R&D-heavy businesses. Here’s an important reminder: act by September 30, 2025 to take advantage of key federal tax credits that are set to expire. There are three EV-related credits currently available: 🔹 The Qualified Commercial Clean Vehicle Credit (for businesses) 🔹 The New Clean Vehicle Credit 🔹 The Previously Owned Clean Vehicle Credit All three credits will sunset after September 30, 2025—meaning they will no longer be available for vehicles purchased on or after October 1.
