"Customers do not see the difference between a physical and a digital experience, right? It's all sort of just part of their journey. So our media should be thought of in the same way." We sat down with Collin Colburn, who joined the IAB this year as the VP of Commerce and Retail Media, to talk about some of the big questions brands and retailers are asking to unlock the growth of in-store media. One is around budget ownership. When you put a digital format into a physical store, it's harder to understand tactically who should own it. "You'll get some folks saying, well, that's not really like a digital format, right? That's more like we should be thinking of that as more of our traditional or shopper budgets and I would kind of challenge that thinking." Collin points out that when it comes to the customer, they're not thinking about individual touchpoints or channels, but instead the entire experience. The goal is "tethering" how you market to customers online with how you market to them in physical environments.
