Happy heavenly birthday to President Jimmy Carter. As we make final preparations for the first Jimmy & Rosalynn #CarterWorkProject since his passing, we continue to be strengthened and inspired by his life of service, humbleness and grace.

About us
Habitat for Humanity is a movement of people in your local area and around the world, working together to build more prosperous and vibrant communities by making sure everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home. Since our founding in 1976 as a Christian organization, together we have helped more than 62 million people in countries around the world build their futures on their own terms through access to decent housing. We’ve done that by working alongside people of all walks of life to build, repair and finance their homes, by innovating new ways of building and financing, and by advocating for policies that make constructing and accessing housing easier for everyone. Together, we build homes, communities and hope. To learn more, visit habitat.org.

At a moment when 94 million U.S. American households can’t afford a median-priced home, Congress must act quickly to end a government shutdown that will delay access to federal resources and force more families to put their dream of a decent and affordable place to call home on hold. It was an honor to attend and speak at the UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) Inaugural High-Level Roundtable of Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing - this is the first time in 80 years that #UNGA80 has highlighted housing as a global urgency. Today, the New York Declaration on Adequate and Affordable Housing was introduced, marking a pivotal step. It calls on countries to develop and implement inclusive domestic housing strategies and embed housing as a permanent pillar in international development. Reiterating what I said in the room, we support this declaration because we know that housing is the foundation for economic opportunity, health, and stability. Housing builds a better future for families around the world. Habitat for Humanity International was the only non-governmental organization in attendance with the heads of state and housing ministers – a tremendous honor and a great responsibility. We’re encouraged by national governments prioritizing housing domestically but know support from donor countries is critical as global action is needed to address this crisis. I left the room inspired by the governments and leaders who are ready to turn ambition into action. I’m grateful to have witnessed this historic moment and commend Kenya’s leadership, specifically President William Ruto for hosting this event. Habitat for Humanity International stands ready to partner – with governments, civil society, and the private sector – to invest in inclusive, sustainable housing solutions globally and drive systemic change to ensure that adequate housing is more accessible and affordable for generations to come.
