With support from Carnegie Corporation of New York, we’re launching a new effort to spotlight one of the most powerful (and sometimes overlooked) places for learning: your local library. How and where people learn differs for everyone. What’s great for one child might not be the same for another. We want to capture all the spaces where learning happens, including public libraries. These community hubs offer so much more than books, from family literacy programs and internet access to after-school clubs and college prep. Yet research shows they’re often underused. That’s why we’re taking steps to change that. In the coming years, we’ll begin adding library info to GreatSchools.org so families can get a fuller picture of the learning resources available right in their neighborhood. Because when parents have more information, kids have more opportunities to thrive in and out of the classroom. #Libraries #CommunityLearning #EducationAccess
When we think about supporting students, we often focus on what happens during the school day. But some of the most powerful learning spaces aren’t in schools at all — they’re in our local libraries. 📚 Public libraries have long-served as community institutions, providing not only books but vital services, including family literacy programming, after school clubs, college access and readiness resources, English-language learning, civic engagement projects, and much more. Despite the range of services, research shows libraries are often underutilized. As the learning ecosystem becomes increasingly complex, it’s important that families understand and take advantage of library resources. This week, I’m proud to share that GreatSchools.org — with support from Carnegie Corporation of New York — is taking steps to change that. Over the next 2 years, we will integrate public library information onto our platform to help families easily discover the free learning resources available in their communities. The first-of-its kind project is fueled by the simple belief that learning happens everywhere. By connecting school and library information, we want to help parents take advantage of all the tools that help children thrive, both in and out of the classroom. As we embark on this work, I’d love to hear from you: What role have libraries played in your life or your students’ lives? Feel free to share a favorite library memory or an example of how your local library is making a difference. 📖 🌟 👉 Read the full announcement: https://bit.ly/46VnTSo
