  • What does scaling up climate resilience in rural America, advancing solutions for U.S. power sector decarbonization, improving sustainable investing and driving cutting-edge data visualization all have in common? They’re just a few of the impactful projects our Summer 2025 Interns have worked on! We’re so glad you all joined us for a summer of learning, growth and climate action. This #NationalInternDay, join us in celebrating the next-generation of changemakers—and their critical work to help build a Vital Earth for everyone. • EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin just finalized a plan to delay the 2024 methane standards for the oil and gas industry – an action that would lead to more energy waste as well as climate-damaging methane pollution and other hazardous pollution in our air. They are attacking “commonsense protections that have been working to cut oil and gas pollution, provide cleaner air for millions of people, reduce the risk of floods, wildfires, heatwaves and other severe weather events fueled by climate change, and prevent the needless waste of American energy," said Fred Krupp, EDF President. • BREAKING: Today the Trump administration proposed to eliminate some of our most vital tools to protect people from the pollution that causes climate change, and the stakes could not be higher. Americans are already suffering from stronger hurricanes, more severe heat waves and floods, and more frequent fires. They are watching these climate disasters get worse, the danger to their lives and health intensify, and their power and insurance bills go up. The Trump Administration’s response? They’re trying to repeal the scientific finding that climate-altering pollution endangers public health. They also proposed overturning the Clean Vehicles Standards, which reduce climate pollution from its largest source in the U.S. “These actions would lead to a predictable result – if there are no enforced limits on pollution, you get more of it, making life more expensive and even more dangerous,” said EDF President Fred Krupp. Read Fred’s full statement: https://lnkd.in/ex8MsMmf

  • Our Federal Affairs Director, Emily Wirzba joined the “Young American with Dylan Douglas” show to break down how the new tax law threatens progress on clean energy and climate. Yes, it’s a big setback — but Emily reminds us why young voices are more important than ever. Stay engaged. The future depends on it.

  • Today is Colorado River Day, and we’re celebrating the state's innovative approach to funding vital water projects: Directing $50 million annually from sports betting revenue to support water in Colorado, including the 1,450-mile Colorado River, a lifeline for communities across the West. From advancing drought-resistant crops, to creating healthier trout fisheries, to helping mobile home residents save water, this creative funding strategy supports a variety of conservation projects throughout the state. This is how these projects are making an impact: https://www.edf.org/Z6r4 “When we dreamed up the Proposition DD campaign nearly six years ago, we thought sports betting revenue would bring in roughly $10 million a year — nowhere close to the $50 million that is now projected to be raised. It gives me great hope about our state’s ability to come together and conserve and protect Colorado’s special way of life that makes me cherish living here so much. And that’s a good a good reason to celebrate Colorado River Day!” says EDF’s Brian Jackson.

  • The first wildfire images from FireSat’s protoflight have been released! Congratulations to Earth Fire Alliance, Muon Space, and Google Research on this significant milestone 🎉 🔥 🛰️ "These initial images show the transformative potential of the FireSat data,” said Steven Hamburg, Chief Scientist at Environmental Defense Fund. “Its precision suggests that with FireSat fully operational, it might have been possible to take advantage of the improved data to significantly reduce the destructive impact of the recent fires across California." • The Trump Administration is reportedly attempting to eliminate the EPA’s ability to combat climate change, and overturn key car and trucks standards, suggesting “a scorched earth campaign against our health, our safety and our planet,” per EDF President Fred Krupp. “Americans don’t want more polluted, unhealthy air, higher energy and insurance bills, and a tougher future for our children. EDF will fight to keep strong pollution protections in place – so they can protect us.” Read Fred's full statement: https://bit.ly/4f3XtQq

  • Make no mistake: This action would put millions of people in harm’s way. In its most environmentally destructive action yet, the Trump Administration is reportedly attempting to eliminate the legal foundation that underpins vital protections for millions of people from the severe threats of climate change. If Trump EPA head Lee Zeldin moves forward with these dangerous actions, it would mean more deadly pollution, avoiding action on climate change and the stronger hurricanes, more powerful floods, and more frequent fires it causes — not to mention hitting Americans in their pocketbooks with higher insurance and fuel costs. https://nyti.ms/3TRfEiH

  • As the world looks to scale up clean hydrogen systems, we have the chance now to get it right for the climate—from the start. Hydrogen is a promising clean energy solution, but it’s also a tiny, leak-prone molecule that can contribute to climate warming. That means, if we don’t do it right, it could reduce the climate benefits we’re counting on. Scientists and partners across Europe and the U.S. are piling into vans with new, real-time sensors to measure emissions from hydrogen facilities. The data they collect could shape smarter climate policy, better industry practices, and cleaner technology—before systems are scaled up. https://lnkd.in/eW-xR_84

  • “Fewer cars, more pedestrians, less honking, fewer deaths and injuries from car crashes, more business for restaurants, and more ticket sales for Broadway theaters.” What’s not to love about NYC’s wildly successful congestion relief program? This excellent overview at the 6-month marker outlines the ways the plan has already become “part of the fabric of New York City”— and the ways it’s becoming “a blueprint for advancing social and environmental policies nationwide.” https://bit.ly/46nJ1Re
