It’s our hometown, the nation’s largest car market, and a city where cars are part of everyday life. 🚙 And while Tommy might be the obvious star, the real #MVP is our upgraded appraisal tool, now giving car owners up to 3 real offers to sell or trade with confidence. This campaign kicks off the first phase of a social-first brand strategy to grow Edmunds’ reach and visibility.     With Q2 in the books, the latest auto sales and finance data from Edmunds reflects a market that’s still adjusting to pressure, even if prices haven’t moved much yet. Strong sales in April and May likely benefited from consumers pulling forward purchases to get ahead of potential tariff hikes, even though prices stayed relatively stable. June was noticeably softer, and may signal a shift as we head into the second half of the year. The finance trends tell a deeper story about how buyers are navigating persistent affordability challenges:  🔹 A record 1 in 5 new-car buyers are taking on $1,000+ monthly payments 🔹 84-month+ loans reached new all-time highs 🔹 The average amount financed hit a record $42,388 🔹 Down payments are shrinking 🔹 0% APR offers are nearly extinct My takeaways 👉 These shifts show consumers are pulling the few levers they can to manage monthly costs, even if it means paying more over time. Longer loan terms, higher loan amounts, and reduced down payments all point to a market where affordability remains a serious challenge. In addition to higher overall costs, these decisions come with long-term risks. As my colleague Joseph Yoon notes, extended loans can increase maintenance expenses down the line and raise the risk of being underwater if the vehicle is traded in before it’s paid off. 📊 More detail in our Q2 finance and sales update: http://edmu.in/4kDBEsp

    Had a great time at Dodger Stadium Monday night celebrating Tommy Edman’s bobblehead night as part of Edmunds’ exciting partnership with the Dodgers and Tommy himself! The game was a blast, went into extra innings and was made even better by the opportunity to host a group of our valued dealer partners Jon Karasek, Carl Rempel, Sharene A., and Vista Ford Lincoln in some incredible seats. There’s nothing like an LA sunset at Chavez Ravine cheering on our boys in blue.     🚨 Used Car Market Update 🚗 The latest Edmunds Used Vehicle Report points to the first major signs that the expected newer-used vehicle supply challenge has arrived, and even more of a market shake-up is expected in the months ahead. Here’s what’s happening: ⏪ Putting the car in reverse a few years, the pandemic-induced microchip shortage left 2022 as one the of lowest new-car sales volume years on record, severely limiting leasing and seeing consumers hold onto their existing cars for longer. Fast-forward to 2025 and … there’s unsurprisingly a shortage of three-year-old used vehicles due to fewer lease returns. The numbers from Q1 2025 are telling and only expect to become more stark: 💰 3-year-old used vehicles surpassed the $30K mark in Q1 2025, narrowing the gap with new car prices to under $17K for the first time since 2022. ⏳ This increase in price was accompanied by longer lot times at used-car dealerships: the average days to turn — the number of days a vehicle sits on a dealer lot before a sale — for used vehicles was 38 days, four slower than a year prior, and the highest Edmunds has on record since Q1 2021. ↔️  While the pricing gap between new and used vehicles is beginning to narrow, another gap is poised to widen: the one between projected and actual resale values. 📈  And as tariffs threaten to once again restrict new-vehicle supply, spillover demand could once again inflate used values, particularly for near-new models. For dealers, sourcing three-year-old used vehicles will become more challenging in the months ahead but is critical to offset shortfalls in new vehicle inventory and bolster certified pre-owned offerings.     There is surely no more potent an example of the opportunities and challenges afforded by software defined vehicles than the Lucid Motors Air. Over three years and 26,000 miles we witnessed the transformation of our car from something scarcely fit for purpose – a car that team members were hesitant to drive – into one of the most popular and effective members of Edmunds’ test fleet. Our journey began three years ago with the publication of “The Lucid Truth”, a damning review of an early media demonstrator, which showed huge potential but suffered numerous hard- and software issues. A few months later, the Air Grand Touring that Edmunds purchased as part of our ownership fleet was beset by many of the same problems. Much of the promised software either didn’t exist, or didn’t work properly. In simple terms, it wasn’t finished. All of this was carefully, and sometimes brutally, documented. But, over the course of more than 60 over-the-air software updates, the car was transformed. The buggy, lethargic infotainment system became quick, responsive and blessed with Apple CarPlay. The range on a single charge also improved, even if we were never quite able to match the EPA estimate on the Edmunds EV Range Test. The Lucid started to feel and behave like the car it always promised to be. It was unlike anything we’d experienced before, despite owning several Tesla’s and a Rivian. Edmunds’ experience highlights both the undeniable benefits of a vehicle that can be improved while you sleep, and the challenges. If a manufacturer has the potential to update everything from steering response to EV range to the audio system, then there is a temptation to launch the car early, get the cash flowing and fix it on the fly.
