If you're still in limbo... now it's really time to rethink the SAVE student loan repayment plan. ⏳ Tomorrow, interest begins accruing again for nearly 8 million borrowers in the SAVE plan—marking an "unofficial end" of COVID-era relief. You've reached a fork in the road... You can stay in SAVE—for now... but all signs point to its elimination this fall. And while you won't have to pay during this “on-hold” period, interest (as high as 9%) will accrue, and these months won't count toward forgiveness programs like PSLF. 🧭 Most borrowers are facing two paths: 1) Income-driven plans (what’s left of them) 2) Fixed-term repayment—with the goal of paying it off for good 💡 For borrowers in that second camp, #refinancing has re-emerged as a strong option for lower rates when federal relief is no longer available. 👉 If you’re considering repayment over forgiveness, it’s worth seeing if a better rate could speed your path to zero. 🎉 New Chapter! 🎉 I'm honored - and stoked - to share that I've officially joined Earnest as Sales & Business Development Manager. After 15 years advising schools, borrowers and employers in the student loan space, I’ve seen just about every curveball this system can throw. Now I’m bringing that experience to Earnest—a lender that’s not just about rates and refis, but about doing right by borrowers. Why now? A few reasons: 🔥 Graduate loan rates are as high as 9% this academic year, and already set as high for next year. 🚫 Federal lending caps are back on the table for students. ⚖️ PSLF and federal loan forgiveness remain an option—but IDR costs are expected to rise, limiting or eliminating savings for millions of borrowers. As a result, more borrowers will need and/or qualify for private loans now and in the coming years. But here’s what I love: Earnest doesn’t push it when it’s not the right fit. They’ve encouraged me to keep doing what I’ve always done: guide borrowers toward the best long-term option, even if that means staying federal. AND, for loans we do originate/refinance... we don't outsource servicing. It stays in house.
