The AI video space has a problem that mirrors what we saw in coding agents: everyone's building for just one type of user. If you ask our VP or Product Laura Burkhauser, there are really two kinds of people who need AI video help: Type 1: Video editors who know their craft but hate the tedious stuff. They don't want to manually change every transition to a cross-fade or spend hours in keyframes for a simple animation. They can describe exactly what they want: "add a J cut here" or "duck the music under this dialogue." Type 2: Complete beginners who have a clear vision but zero technical skills. They don't know what a transition IS, let alone whether they need one. But they know the story they want to tell. Here's where it gets interesting: most AI video tools only work for one group. The first category is what Laura calls "wizards in a trench coat" — tools that claim to be AI agents but are really just rigid workflows. They'll build any video you want, as long as it's exactly the type of video they're programmed for. Go off-script? They break completely. The second category comes from cool emerging startups with genuinely advanced AI. But they only work if you're already an expert in both video editing and AI tools. The barrier to entry is huge. When you’re editing with Underlord, use positive language. AI responds better when you tell it what TO do, vs. what NOT to do. Like a toddler. An extremely capable, all-knowing toddler. Instead of 'don't make this boring,' say 'make this visually engaging’.
