About us

Dear Asian Youth is a youth-led, global organization that promotes intersectional activism, solidarity with other marginalized communities, and equality and equity. Through our digital platform, grassroots organizing, and community-based advocacy, we strive to showcase diversity in the Asian community as well as accurate and holistic representation. Dear Asian Youth was founded in May of 2020 by Stephanie Hu, a 16-year-old who wished to create a platform to publish her poetry. It evolved into a blog dedicated to the Asian narrative, then a literary magazine, then a full-fledged organization with over 200 members on the core team. Today, Dear Asian Youth has garnered 110k+ Instagram followers, produced 4 podcast seasons, published 400+ pieces of literature, established 180+ chapters across 18 countries, donated $30,000, and hosted 2 conferences and 30+ webinars. Functioning remotely, the organization today is the product of 300+ passionate volunteers with a shared purpose.

  • Congratulations to our DAY chapter of the month for June: Day @ Chesterfield. They have been an active chapter that recently participated in a the Green Fun Fair that allowed them to raise $200 for Myanmar Earthquake relief and for Syrian refugees. In addition to this they also have a $100 scholarship for 7th-12th graders providing assistance in SAT registration and college application fees. Initiatives like this allow for the Asian diaspora to connect and aid those abroad as well as develop stronger communities within. We applaud their support for community development!

  • ✨ TEAM MEMBER FEATURE: Rebecca Borlace ✨ Rebecca has been involved with DAY for multiple years, first as a Chapter Member at her high school, then Outreach Director, and Chapter Lead. Now she is a departmental Outreach Associate! Learn more about her wonderful work: ⬇️ Q: What are your main responsibilities at DAY, and what are some projects you'd like to highlight? A: As an Outreach Associate, I mainly research and email people and organizations for DAY to establish relationships with. My favorite initiatives so far have been helping interview Michigan chapter leads for our chapters spotlight project. Hearing about all the ways chapter leads have grown as youth advocates felt like a learning experience for me as well. Q: What do you do outside of DAY? A: I love to play the violin and pick up new hobbies. Recently, I’ve been into gardening and just got my first basil plant to help me learn to cook before going to my first year in college this fall.  I also intern for a local Asian-owned business, gathering youth feedback on products, writing press releases, tabeling at Asian festivals, and working on social media, and I get involved with my community through my local public library, where I’ve been a volunteer for 4 years, and as a volunteer tutor for elementary kids. Q: What do you like about being part of DAY? Why did you join? A: I joined DAY my freshman year of high school as a chapter member to feel more at home with my Asian heritage. Subsequently, I became my chapter’s Outreach Director, and then Chapter Lead. I found so much connection here, as a space for me to grow both my leadership skills and my friendships.  After I became a Chapter Lead, I got to meet all the other Michigan chapter leads and after I became an Outreach Associate, I met so many more amazing people through bi-weekly CC meetings and Bonding meetings. They’ve all been phenomenal resources of advice and information as I’ve developed the issues that I care most about, like issues with education, mental health in Asian communities, and erasure of history. We appreciate your commitment to DAY Chapters, Rebecca! 💖
