Superintendent, CCSD | Focused on Academic Achievement, Student Success & Community Trust

People are at the heart of everything we do at CCSD. This week offered a powerful glimpse into what makes our District special: the unwavering dedication of those who serve our students daily. The week began with Vegas PBS airing the final Student Spotlight episode of the school year. I want to thank the entire team for their powerful storytelling and commitment to elevating student voice. Their work shines a light on our schools' incredible talent and diversity and brings us a little closer together. We also celebrated employees who have been with CCSD for more than 40 years. That kind of commitment is hard to put into words. Their careers have touched generations of students. They’ve guided students through new math, old math, and at least three versions of classroom projectors, and they’re still showing up with heart and purpose. This week, I had the opportunity to meet with principals from across the District. The meetings were hosted at Del Sol, Centennial, and Escobedo, and each one was filled with thoughtful conversation, pride in our schools, and a few joyful student performances to start the day. I’m grateful for the collaboration and momentum we’re building together. Congratulations to Ryan Cordia, Principal of Northeast Career and Technical Academy, on being named Nevada State Principal of the Year for 2025. His leadership is a reflection of the excellence found across our campuses. At this week’s Board of School Trustees meeting, we also shared important updates, including planned HVAC improvements at 37 campuses and continued progress on our state-approved corrective action plan. And tomorrow, our Family Support Center will host a Mental Health Pop-In Resource Fair to support students and families with resources, connections, and care. Thank you to every member of the CCSD team. You are the reason we keep moving forward. #WeAreCCSD

Superintendent, CCSD | Focused on Academic Achievement, Student Success & Community Trust

This week reminded me, again, how much there is to celebrate in our District. From academic excellence and student achievement to dedicated leadership and statewide advocacy, I’ve had the privilege of seeing the very best of CCSD in action. On Monday morning, I visited Liberty High School to help celebrate one of our own — Moliki Matavao — who was drafted by the New Orleans Saints. A powerful reminder of what’s possible for CCSD graduates! That evening, we recognized outstanding seniors at the Superintendent’s Medallion Ceremony—a celebration of academic excellence, leadership, and perseverance. These students represent the very best of what CCSD has to offer, and their futures are bright. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gyjgssEv On Wednesday, I traveled to Carson City to meet with legislative and education committee leaders. I also had the opportunity to speak with a young CCSD student advocating for a bill and to connect with colleagues from the Nevada Association of School Superintendents. These conversations are critical as we work to strengthen public education across our state. Yesterday, we celebrated Principal’s Day, and I shared a message of appreciation with our incredible school leaders who guide, support, and inspire every day. https://lnkd.in/gaZ2ZwQ8 I was also honored to help kick off Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month at the iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. The sign is now rimmed in gold lights—symbolizing strength, family, and cultural pride across AAPI communities. And today, we honor our dedicated food service professionals on School Lunch Hero Day. Thank you for nourishing our students with care and consistency, day in and day out. I’m so proud of the work happening across our schools every single day. #WeAreCCSD
