The old adage "believe none of what you hear and half of what you see" has long served as a caution against misinformation. Yet, with the pace of evolution in our digital landscape, even that skepticism falls short. From the rise of word processors challenging the authority of print to the early days of the internet, our understanding of credibility has had to continually adapt. To date, this caution has transformed: believe none of what you hear, a quarter of what you read, and half of what you see. #GenAI offers incredible creative power, allowing anyone to produce photorealistic images, music, and videos with remarkable ease. This technology can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, from lifelike animated robots to whimsical animal antics to convincing portrayals of public figures. However, as with any powerful tool, its potential for misuse is equally significant. What begins as creative expression can quickly morph into something deceptive, abusive, or even criminal. Consider the unsettling reality of deepfakes. With just seconds of source material, GenAI can convincingly spoof audio, video, and still images. To illustrate this, Booz Allen Hamilton’s collaborator, Reality Defender’s CTO Alex Lisle, created a deepfake video of me (with my consent of course). This demonstration underscores a critical challenge: discerning authenticity in a world saturated with synthetic content. This is precisely why our strategic collaboration with Reality Defender is so vital.
