We’re proud to see our Precision Analytics approach, co-developed by Peter York and Stephen Shimshock validated in a peer-reviewed study! This milestone highlights the real impact of AI tools like the Insight Generator—supporting practitioners, empowering families, and improving outcomes for youth. #DataForGood #AIEthics #PrecisionAnalytics #SocialImpact
I'm thrilled to share that the Precision Analytics methodology Peter York and I have been developing at BCT Partners has been independently evaluated and published in a peer-reviewed journal! Margaret McGladrey, Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky led this groundbreaking study, published in Residential Treatment for Children & Youth, examining how practitioners actually use our AI-based decision support tool, the Insight Generator, at Gemma Services. What makes this particularly meaningful is that this represents one of the first peer-reviewed evaluations of practitioner usage of AI decision support tools in residential treatment settings. The participatory evaluation captured real stories from 31 staff members - from front-line workers to leadership - about how they're using our tool in practice. Key findings that validate our approach: - Children returned to their communities an average of 29 days sooner - Practitioners use the tool to track progress, enhance communication with families, and provide more personalized care - The tool helps staff move beyond "one-size-fits-all" approaches One powerful insight from a therapist: "When parents are struggling because they aren't seeing the progress... being able to pull up the parenting version that I can share with them shows them the progress that has been made." The tool's parent-friendly visualizations help families see both achievements and areas needing continued support, transforming difficult conversations into collaborative discussions about their child's journey. Peter York and I are especially proud that the study highlights how our precision analytics methodology genuinely enhances human decision-making rather than replacing it. By combining rigorous data science, social science evaluation methods, and subject matter expertise in an integrated approach, we ensure AI remains a tool that augments—not supplants—practitioner judgment. After years of successfully implementing this interdisciplinary approach across multiple settings, this independent validation confirms what our clients have experienced firsthand: when AI tools are designed to bridge technical innovation with human expertise and social science rigor, they can truly transform how we deliver social services. Thank you to Kate Ryan and the entire Gemma Services team for their partnership and commitment to innovation in youth services. Happy to connect if you'd like to learn more about our #precisionanalytics approach and how it can help your organization achieve better outcomes.
