  • Automattic recently brought 54 employees together at our NoHo Space for our first-ever AI Enablement training. And trust us, it won’t be the last! Featuring engineers and product designers across our entire suite of products, it was two jam-packed weeks of hands-on building, experimenting, and ushering in the future of how Automattic works: AI-first. In our newest Automattic Newsroom feature, Birgit Pauli-Haack shares what the team built, how perceptions changed, and what it means for the WordPress ecosystem. Birgit is a WordPress Developer Advocate at Automattic and the curator of Gutenberg Times, the go-to resource for news and community voices around the WordPress block editor. She is a full-time core contributor to the WordPress open source project, sponsored by Automattic, and co-hosts the Gutenberg Changelog podcast. 👉 Check out her insights into the inaugural event: https://lnkd.in/ejvbbFkm

  • Automattic’s mission is to democratize publishing, ecommerce, and messaging, because a fully informed citizenry is the foundation of a functioning democracy. To that end, our 25th biannual Transparency Report is now live. The report details our Trust & Safety Team’s work from July to December 2025 and summarizes the government information requests, intellectual property claims, and takedown demands we have received. In all, it spotlights the important work our Trust & Safety team undertakes to protect user rights across platforms. In an industry where user data is often a closely guarded asset, we believe that sharing this information openly is critical to fostering trust, championing free expression, and furthering our company's mission. The future of web creation isn't built in a silo; it's co-created with the WordPress community. Today, we're sharing our latest update to Telex, powered directly by your creativity and insights. Here’s a glimpse at what’s new: ➡️ Upload reference images when describing your block, from Figma mockups to napkin sketches ➡️ Edit blocks outside of Telex with VS Code, Cursor, and more ➡️ Restore previous versions as new versions ➡️ Available in seven languages This is how the next generation of powerful web tools is built: in the open, together. Say hello to the WordPress AI Assistant, which collaborates with you to design, write, and build right inside WordPress.com. This isn't a separate chatbot that gives you fragile, one-off code to manage. It's a true co-pilot, built into your workflow to give you full creative leverage. With the assistant, you can: • Design and Layout: Edit block styles, create new sections, and generate color palettes with conversational commands. • Write and Edit: Rewrite, refine, and translate text for clarity, tone, and impact without leaving the page. • Generate Visuals: Create new images from a description or edit existing ones directly in your Media Library. This is our vision of "Managed Freedom": powerful, intuitive assistance that’s backed by the security of WordPress and real human support when you need it. The AI assistant is now available for sites on our Business and Commerce plans, or with new sites built with our AI website builder. 💙 Read the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/eWa8d94y

  • As AI continues to redefine our digital landscape, the most critical question remains: will it empower individuals or centralize control? This was the core of the conversation at Techarena 2026, with WordPress Executive Director Mary Hubbard on the "The New User Empowerment: How AI is Redefining Media, Money & More" panel earlier today. “As more AI-generated content gets up, it's going to become more and more important for you to own a piece of the web,” Mary shares. “To actually have your own self-identity, and ensure that your piece of the web has real and accurate content." From our perspective at Automattic, this sentiment couldn’t ring truer. We believe AI's true impact lies in its ability to enhance user sovereignty. The discussion reinforced our commitment to building tools that give creators more control, champion data portability, and operate with the transparency inherent to the open source community. An empowered user is the catalyst for a better web. 💙 • Thank you to TECHARENA for hosting this vital discussion on the future of technology and its impact on personal ownership. • Did you catch her panel? Let us know in the comments!

For the members of the Bedfordshire Bird Club, the most important tool is often the one in their pocket. 📱 The club is a hub for a passionate community of birders, but their old website wasn't keeping up. It didn't work on mobile, which was a huge problem for people trying to access information while out in nature. So, we partnered with them to build a beautiful new home with WordPress.com (now hosted on Pressable). Our Special Projects Team handled the technical side, creating a site that puts everything the birders need right at their fingertips, from an interactive map of birding spots to parking info and recent sightings. It's a wonderful example of how the right technology can empower passion and bring a community closer to the world around them. We're honored to provide the platform that helps their mission take flight. 🦅 Check out the incredible new site and see the full story of our collaboration in the Automattic Newsroom! ➡️ Club Website: https://lnkd.in/e6BYW6ip ➡️ Full Story: https://lnkd.in/egSp9P2x
