(LifeSiteNews) — Former Republican congressman George Santos, a homosexual who describes himself as “very conservative,” said that the Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) is “not a serious organization” and in reality is a “glorified sex club.”

Speaking to TV personality Bill Maher on his Club Random podcast, the former U.S. House member from New York explained that he was the “first ever openly gay” man to be elected to Congress as a Republican.

While LCR enjoys its association with the GOP as part of its big tent, it is a libertarian organization masquerading as a conservative force within the party. It has wielded increasing political muscle within the party in recent years, thanks mostly to President Trump’s acceptance of homosexuality as normal.

When the Republican National Convention adopted a new party platform at the national convention in 2024, abandoning the GOP’s longstanding opposition to same-sex “marriage,” LCR celebrated, calling the move an “historic moment.”

LCR says its purpose is to “to make the Republican Party more inclusive, particularly on LGB issues,” which conservatives generally take to mean diluting and eventually eliminating the GOP’s traditional conservative stances on marriage, homosexuality, and transgender ideology.

In August, the group dropped its support for transgenderism.
