President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law said Tuesday that his war on Iran could cost him the midterm elections.

Lara Trump made the assessment on the political talk show “Harry Cole Saves The West” after Cole claimed that Iran had been “dragging their feet” on sealing a peace deal with Trump. The deadly conflict, which Trump said was expected to only last roughly four to five weeks, has now gone on for seven months.

“[It’s] purely to hurt the president at the midterms,” Cole said of Iran’s actions. He also noted that the timing of the war couldn’t have been worse because it could cost Trump his legacy.

“Well, it could cost him these midterms,” Lara Trump said. “I think Donald Trump’s legacy has yet to be written. And I think that, in a lot of ways, maybe, you know, I still say he’s going to go down in history as one of the greatest presidents, if not the greatest America has ever seen. But you’re right.”

Lara Trump also said her father-in-law “really hates the way that things have gone with Iran.”

“Absolutely does he wish that things had had more swiftly happened. But you’re right, the Iranians are absolutely holding out until these midterm elections,” she claimed.

The former Republican National Committee co-chair also accused the Iranian leadership of wanting to do everything it could to damage Trump’s efforts for Republicans to retain control of Congress in November.

“This conflict will end. It’s not ending as quickly as everybody wants. But believe me, the only person who I think could absolutely do the right job here is this president,” Lara Trump said.

On Wednesday, Trump told reporters that he would renew strikes against Iran if a deal to end the war wasn’t made. Ongoing negotiations are currently stalled.

“We have to make that decision: We blow them up or make a deal. But the time is coming; it’s going to end very soon one way or the other,” Trump told reporters at an Oval Office press briefing.

Last week, Iranian leadership proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz and reconvening talks on its nuclear program if the U.S. lifted its naval blockade of Iranian ports and waived sanctions on Iranian oil sales, among other conditions.

Trump publicly rejected Iran’s proposal.
