    Reviews/buzz is also another potential reason, but you have to drop a *lot* of copies for that to happen. Big 5 publishers will give away *thousands* of copies to draw buzz, and it works... but those are resources beyond indies.

    The thing is, there are many thousands of people out there who just download free books because they like free shit. They'll never read it. They won't become fans. Once you realize that, your interest in free Kindle days, etc. just sort of drops.

    Lot of folks just have no idea about down-funnel. Giving away for free in the context of building up a newsletter? Great. Giveaways to promote a series? Solid if you're tactical. But most folks don't think that far ahead.

    Coming from someone with zero experience in self pub and indie pub. Authors, why are you giving your books away for free? Multiple times I’ve seen people talk about 100’s downloading the book, and that’s awesome the work is getting out, but you were already priced at .99 are

    The worst part is, *you* might think you're at fault. That you didn't write a good-enough book to get publicity. That something's off. But it's not you, it's them. If you use a PR agency, vet them carefully.

    Don't get me wrong, there are excellent PR firms. Publicists that change lives. True artisans of the craft. And then there are PR firms that are simply shit. They don't care about you; they'll bomb a list of random emails, tell you they didn't get any bites, and call it a day.

    Nor do I know this PR person. There's no reason to think they're aware of any personal connection between me and this particular author. This PR person, in short, is just mass-bombing a big list of emails with zero/little relevance.

    They sent it to the email address for my day job, which has zero connection to crime fiction whatsoever. Zero relevance. I get a lot of PR pitches on a daily basis (a lot!) but they're all science- and tech-related.

    A couple minutes ago, one such PR person sent me an extensive press release breaking down a friend's new book, complete with a chapter sample, supporting quotes, etc. There's just one little problem... 2/x

    Writers! Do you shell out your hard-earned cash on a PR person to help with your books? Is that PR person telling you they're sending out beautifully crafted emails touting your works to all the right journalists, bloggers, etc.? 1/x

    With respect, , all these web3 advocates are going to need to prove how the proposal isn't just a carbon-spewing attempt to get more people to buy crypto before the bottom falls out of the market. And the blockchain alone isn't going to subvert top-down inequality.

    My goal is simple - eradicate poverty. Web3 technologies represent the biggest anti-poverty opportunity of our time. Millions of lives are being transformed and creators empowered by new ways to exchange and generate value on the blockchain. It’s bottom-up not top-down.

    I wrestle mightily with this film, just because it's such an abrupt shift in tone (and violence levels) from the other two films in this unofficial (semi-official? ?) trilogy.

    The way I know most of Film Twitter is new to movies is how you don’t talk about this movie every single day
