A public fascination with the plague and disease in general has resulted in some fine science writing; the six titles gathered here demonstrate the impact these diseases have had on humanity, but they also highlight the key developments in science and public health that have driven down the rates of infection.
For book clubs and reading groups interested in current events,  these six medical histories offer plenty of fascinating material for discussion in light of the current Ebola outbreak.
