UFV once again scores top marks in Globe and Mail’s University Report

Once again, UFV has brought home top marks on its report card. The Globe and Mail newspaper released its annual University Report on Oct 25, and UFV scored A grades in many key categories.

UFV earned the most ‘A range’ grades for any public post-secondary institution of any size in British Columbia, racking up A grades in the following categories: quality of education, student-faculty interaction, and ease of registration. It earned an A+ for class size, and an A- for most satisfied students, quality of teaching, and technology, for a total of seven grades within the A- to A+ range.

The A grade that UFV received for student-faculty interaction was the highest ranking in this category among BC public post-secondaries of any size, as was the A- for most satisfied students, and the A- grade for teaching.

“These stellar grades are once again very welcome news,” says UFV president Mark Evered. “They confirm that we are succeeding  in our mandate of providing excellent, student-focused, educational opportunities. They also indicate that we are on track with our strategic goal of providing the best undergraduate education in Canada.”

This year, the Globe and Mail also ranked schools based on student response in four categories: health and medicine, sciences and math, arts and humanities, and business and commerce. UFV ranked in the top five nationally in each of these categories for small-sized universities, for both quality of education and career preparation.

In the quality of education category, compared to other small schools (4,000 to 12,000 full-time equivalencies) UFV was ranked first in sciences and math, and second in each of health and medicine, arts and humanities, and business and commerce.

In the career preparation category for small-sized universities, UFV ranked second in health and medicine, arts and humanities, and science and math, and fifth in business and commerce.

Even in areas where UFV did not score A grades, it generally placed first or second compared to other public post-secondary institutions in British Columbia.

The Globe and Mail, in partnership with a consulting company called Higher Education Strategies, annually polls more than 35,000 undergraduate students in Canada, asking them more than 100 questions about their university. It then compiles the data into its University Report.
