AI might be the catalyst, but the real transformation is human. LinkedIn’s new Future of Recruiting report says 80% of recruitment businesses are exploring or integrating generative AI. But as we all know, the data only tell part of the story. I am really interested in what does change actually look like on the ground? That is why it was so good to dig a bit deeper into this with Sharon Bagshaw, Matthew Rodger, and Christoph Niebel from AMS. We kept coming back to three ideas that seem to signal where things are heading: 1️⃣ We talked about how many organisations still struggle to map the skills they already have and how that affects who they hire and how they plan. 2️⃣ We challenged whether “quality of hire” still holds up as a measure, or if we need to get better at tracking real impact over time. 3️⃣ And we looked at how AI might support recruiters, not to replace them, but to make space for deeper work: building trust, advising clients, and navigating complexity. These aren’t simple shifts. They ask something new of us as recruiters, as leaders, and as an industry. I’m not sure we have all the answers yet. I’ve spent the last ten years working in different roles across LinkedIn’s Talent team, and lately I’ve caught myself taking our own product for granted. When part of your job is giving feedback to improve the tools, it’s easy to forget how powerful they already are. But every time I sit down with leaders from other companies, I’m reminded just how much LinkedIn shapes the way people hire, and how much potential there is as AI and automation become a bigger part of the process. Sitting down with Jim Sykes, the COO of @AMS, was another reminder of how much has changed and how much will continue to evolve. The call for Recruiters to serve as “trusted advisors” is not a new one; we’ve been talking about that for 20 years. But with the rise of AI performing recruiting tasks like sourcing and screening, every TA leader and TA professional simply must revisit what it means to be an advisor, what it means to add value, and how to “level up” in this changing landscape. Humanity still matters, and recruiters who focus on connection, discernment, conviction, and the big picture of what their companies need will (as always) thrive most.
