  • 📢 Card Factory acquires Funky Pigeon from WHSmith. Card Factory has confirmed a £24m deal to acquire online personalised greetings card business Funky Pigeon from WHSmith, in a move set to accelerate its digital transformation and strengthen its position in the direct-to-recipient gifting market. With the transaction expected to complete by year-end (pending regulatory approval), Card Factory will gain access to a proven e-commerce platform that has averaged £32m in annual revenue and £5m EBITDA over the last two years. The Bristol and Guernsey-based Funky Pigeon platform will ultimately become the core of Card Factory’s digital presence in the UK and Ireland. CEO Darcy Willson-Rymer described the acquisition as a strategic leap forward, combining Card Factory’s store network and broad celebration offering with Funky Pigeon’s strong digital capability. The aim: to create a fully integrated omnichannel customer experience. WHSmith’s decision to sell follows a strategic review and continues its shift toward becoming a focused global travel retailer. Meanwhile, Card Factory maintains its FY26 growth targets, reporting mid-single-digit year-on-year sales growth for the five months to 30 June. Luke Boyle, Commercial Consultant at MacGregor Black, commented: "This is a big move in the cards and gifting space. It’ll be interesting to see how the integration of a strong digital player like Funky Pigeon into Card Factory’s omnichannel strategy impacts the wider retail landscape, particularly as more traditional players double down on digital." #News #Acquisition #ConsumerGood #Gifting #Strategy
