Today marks the halfway point of our three-year plan, and six quarters of consistent execution, to deliver a better run, more strongly performing and higher returning Barclays. Our performance has allowed us to announce our plans to return £1.4bn to shareholders for the first half of the year, as we progress against our goal of at least £10bn of shareholders distributions by 2026. I am pleased with the Group’s operational and financial performance thus far, and we remain committed to and confident in achieving the full objectives of the strategy. Thank you to all of my colleagues across Barclays for their continued focus and their dedication to our customers and clients.

Did you know that people’s relationship with money starts to be formed at the age of seven? 🧒   That’s why it’s crucial we provide children with the number confidence to help them manage and grow their finances throughout their lives. 💵   I am delighted that our new partnership with National Numeracy will boost number confidence in communities across the UK in support of helping people make the most of their money. It will build on the success of Barclays LifeSkills programme which has already provided financial education and employability resources in 94% of UK secondary schools. 🔢   A financially confident nation is the foundation of a growing economy, and this ambitious new partnership is just one way we are helping to unlock growth. 🚀

It’s not always the flashiest ideas that move the needle. Sometimes it’s the ones buried in sludge, drifting in tidal currents, or growing quietly in the sea. This week, Sifted sat down with three Unreasonable Impact Fellows building real-world climate solutions in the UK. - James Hygate OBE is converting sewage into jet fuel at Firefly Green Fuels. - Karen Scofield Seal is scaling seaweed-based materials and food ingredients at OCEANIUM . - Andrew Scott is generating reliable power from tides at Orbital Marine Power Ltd. All three are part of Unreasonable Impact, a programme we run in partnership with Barclays to support growth-stage ventures tackling pressing global challenges. We were proud to bring together clients and the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rt Hon Rachel Reeves MP at a dinner hosted by Barclays and The British High Commission in Johannesburg last week. Discussions focused on the UK’s appeal as a destination for business, investment, and wealth and how we can support South Africans considering the UK. In a week which saw the Chancellor set out her financial services and growth strategy for the UK in her Mansion House speech, it was great to hear from her on the economy and on the UK-South Africa economic relationship. The Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves MP, said: “Thank you to Barclays for hosting this event. It is incredibly helpful to hear directly from global families and global businesses who are exploring the UK as a destination for their families and / or for their investment. It was a great opportunity to provide HM Government with the opportunity to put forward our agenda for growth and investment in the years to come.” #SouthAfrica #Johannesburg #Barclays
