“Chaos with a tongue”: Rex

Hello, I am...

“Chaos with a tongue”: Rex

Chapter 1

Welcoming Rex to the family

Rex, a boisterous Black Labrador and German Shepherd mix, was born on May 25, 2024. He was adopted on July 12 by Melissa and her family, and quickly established a reputation in his new home as “chaos with a tongue.”

His name was originally Boy Blue, and after some deliberation, the family decided on Rex. Today, the kids will tell you it’s “Rexx”, because he’s “Xtra,” and Melissa and her husband Steve will tell you it’s actually “Wrecks,” because of how he powers through the house with no regard for anything in his path.

Rex came from a large litter, so he was accustomed to a bustling environment and adapted easily to his new house alongside his canine sister, Rosie, and six human siblings. His transition was seamless, forging an immediate and deep bond with Rosie and securing a special place in the hearts of his new human companions.

From day one, Rex has been a big, loving goofball with remarkably long tongue, which often hangs out the side of his mouth, reminiscent of the hyenas from The Lion King, a picture that never fails to bring smiles and laughter. Still growing rapidly, he is often unaware of his burgeoning size, leading to many amusing moments.

Despite his puppy clumsiness, Rex is quick on his paws and generous with sloppy, enthusiastic kisses. His affection knows no bounds — he adores snuggling, often curling up tightly with Rosie, and he follows his favourite human, Daniel, around like an ever-present shadow.

Chapter 2

Adventures of a water-loving, dirt-digging dynamo

The months since Rex came home have been packed with memorable firsts. His adventurous spirit was put to the test on his very first camping trip, an experience he took in stride, and he's steadily improving his car-travel etiquette. He thrives in outdoor exploration, nose constantly to the ground to take in every new scent the world has to offer. Long walks are a particular delight, especially when they lead to the beach where he can engage in his favourite pastime: digging holes.

A true aquatic dog, Rex is drawn to any body of water — be it ocean, stream or lake — he’ll leap right in with unbridled enthusiasm. This love, however, has one significant exception: bathtime. Trips to the dreaded bathtub are challenging, if hilarious, ordeals for everyone involved.

Chapter 3

The ever-hungry pup

When it comes to playtime, Rex’s most prized possession is his purple soccer ball. Backyard sessions with the kids often transform into lively matches or a spirited game of keep away, where Rex goads his young human friends into chasing him to try and capture the prized purple ball.

When he’s not playing with the kids, Rex spends his boundless energy wrestling good-naturedly with Rosie.

Aside from his comically long tongue, one of Rex’s most defining characteristics is his insatiable appetite. Mealtime is unequivocally his favourite time of day, hands down, and is not limited to his own bowl. Rosie’s food is also fair game, as is any human snack left unattended.

In fact, nothing is truly safe from Rex’s appetite — pup treats and food, but also socks, sticks and even the occasional piece of furniture.

Rex’s joyful chaos has become the heartbeat of the household, turning ordinary days into adventures and filling every moment with laughter, love and a whole lot of slobber.
