We write as pro-peace Americans who care deeply about both Israel’s security and the devastating conditions endured by families in Gaza.

Hamas has accepted a roadmap that includes its gradual disarmament and the transfer of governance and security responsibilities to a technocratic Palestinian government. Prime Minister Netanyahu has rejected this approach because it requires Israel to gradually withdraw as Hamas disarms.

We want to see Hamas disarmed to protect the safety and security of Israelis. We also want to see Gaza rebuilt under moderate Palestinian governance.

Yet rather than pursue this path, leading members of Netanyahu’s government are pushing to rebuild Israeli settlements in Gaza and force Palestinians to leave the Strip.

We are deeply concerned that the Israeli government is derailing progress toward Hamas’ disarmament in pursuit of permanent Israeli control over Gaza.

We therefore call on Congress to support the Ceasefire Compliance Act, which would ensure that US weapons are not used to violate the ceasefire or obstruct its implementation.
