Manage your profile visibility & following on Google Play Games

This feature allows you to connect with other users, share your gaming activity, and discover new games within Google Play.

This article explains:

  • The difference between public and private profiles.
  • How to adjust your privacy settings and manage followers.
  • How to connect with and follow other users, and view their updates.

Manage your profile visibility

You can choose whether your profile is public or private. This setting affects what content others can find on your profile.

Tips:

  • All new profiles are private by default. You can change this in your profile privacy settings.
  • You have full control over your profile's privacy. At any time, you can make your profile private or public.
If your profile is public

When your profile is public, anyone who views your profile can find the following information about your profile:

  • Avatar
  • Gamer name
  • Achievements
  • Followers and following list
  • Gamer stats, like current and longest streak, experience level, what games you’re playing, and the relative playtime (displayed as a percent of overall playtime) for the games you are playing.

A public profile allows anyone to view your gaming activity and the games you're currently playing.

If your profile is private

When your profile is private, other users will only find limited information about your profile if you have not approved them to follow you:

  • Avatar
  • Gamer name
  • Followers and following counts
  • A "Follow" button, to send a follow request for approval

If someone requests to follow your private profile, you must approve their request. If you approve their request, they will also be able to see your:

  • Achievements
  • Followers and following list
  • Gamer stats, like current and longest streak, experience level, what games you’re playing, and the relative playtime (displayed as a percent of overall playtime) for the games you are playing.
If you have an existing profile from Play Games app

Your existing gamer profile from the Play Games app is now also available in the Play Games profile. Your profile is moving from a friend system to a follower model. This means you can follow and request to follow other gamer profiles without needing them to follow you back. Your profile visibility settings and friends list have been converted as follows:

  • If your profile visibility in the Play Games app was set to "Everyone":
    • Your Play Games profile visibility was set to Public.
    • Your existing friends automatically became followers on your Play Games profile.
  • If your profile visibility in the Play Games app was set to "Friends only":
    • Your Play Games profile visibility was set to Private.
    • Your existing friends were converted to followers.
  • If your profile visibility in the Play Games app was set to "Only Me":
    • Your Play Games profile visibility was set to Private.
    • Your existing friends (if any were associated with your profile) were converted to followers.
