Google Play gift cards, specialty gift cards & Google Play balance refund policies

Play gift cards and other prepaid Play balance, including cash top-ups, aren’t refundable or transferable unless required by law (for instance, underage user accounts). Promotional Play balance isn’t refundable or transferable.

Google Play and third-party digital gift cards purchased from the Play Store are not eligible for refunds or transfers, with the exception of cases where required by law, or if a gift card you purchased is defective, undelivered, or doesn't match its description on Google Play.

If you are having issues redeeming a specialty gift card, we recommend that you first contact the brand that issued the card for assistance, as they will be best positioned to assist with this type of issue.

Region-specific policies

  • US residents who have redeemed gift cards or non-promotional gift codes may request a refund for their Google Play balance if the amount is below $10. Additionally, Massachusetts residents who have redeemed a gift card and used 90% or more of the value of the gift card may request a refund of the unused balance.
  • Brazilian residents who have redeemed gift cards or non-promotional gift codes may request a refund of their Google Play balance if certain conditions are met. These conditions include the amount being below a certain threshold and no refunds having been issued in a certain period of time.
  • Korean residents who have redeemed gift cards or non-promotional gift codes may request a refund of the card amount for residual values of Google Play balance equal to 40% or less of the face value of the gift card.
  • In accordance with the Fair Treatment of Financial Consumers Charter, Malaysian residents who redeemed gift cards or non-promotional gift codes may request a refund of their Google Play balance.
  • United Kingdom residents: Under the law, you have an automatic statutory right of withdrawal from contracts for purchases of digital content, including digital gift cards, on Google Play. However, when you purchase digital content from Google Play, you agree that the digital content will be available to you immediately, and you acknowledge that, as a result, you waive your automatic statutory right of withdrawal. Therefore, you won’t be eligible for a refund or any alternative remedy unless the gift card is defective, undelivered, or doesn’t match its description on Google Play. If a refund is issued, you'll lose access to the item.
