With Gemini in Chrome, you can get AI assistance in your desktop browser to easily get key takeaways, clarify concepts, find answers and more. To provide the most relevant responses, Gemini in Chrome uses the content of the browser tab you’re viewing.
Gemini in Chrome is a feature of Chrome on desktop and a separate experience from the Gemini web app. With it, you can easily share page content with Gemini and get help while you browse.
What you need
Important: Gemini in Chrome is not available to all users at this time. We’re gradually releasing Gemini in Chrome to people without a Google AI plan, so it might not be available to you just yet.
To use Gemini in Chrome on your computer, you need to:
- Be 18 or over and in the US.
- Use a Mac or Windows computer.
- Use the latest version of Chrome. Learn how to update Chrome.
- Sign in to Chrome. This feature isn’t available in Incognito mode. Learn how to sign in to Chrome.
- Have Chrome’s language set to English (United States). Learn how to change Chrome’s language setting.
If you use Gemini in Chrome with a work or school Google Account, access must be enabled by your administrator. Learn more about using Gemini Apps with a work or school Google Account.
Chat with Gemini in Chrome
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top of your browser, click Gemini in Chrome
.
- You’ll need to opt in the first time you use Gemini in Chrome. To opt in, follow the onscreen instructions.
- In the Gemini in Chrome window, enter your question or request.
- By default, Gemini in Chrome uses content from the browser tab you're viewing for its response. Learn how Gemini in Chrome works with your data.
Tip: After you opt in to Gemini in Chrome , it’s added to your Mac menu bar or Windows system tray, and you can use keyboard shortcuts.
What you can do with Gemini in Chrome
After you opt in to Gemini in Chrome, a floating window will appear where you can chat directly with Gemini. In the floating window, you can ask questions to get help in the moment with anything you’re exploring. For example, try asking Gemini in Chrome to:
- Summarize key takeaways from an article
- Explain a complex topic in a different way
- Help you test your knowledge of a new subject you’re learning
- Modify a recipe to meet dietary needs
- Compare information or make recommendations based on your preferences
Manage your chat with Gemini in Chrome
In the Gemini in Chrome window, you can:
- Go Live & talk while you browse: at the bottom, click Go Live

- Stop sharing a page: hover over Sharing, then click Stop sharing page

- Share a page: click Share current page

- Start a new chat: click More options

After you opt in to using Gemini in Chrome, you can use keyboard shortcuts.
To open Gemini in Chrome, or close it while in the window:
- On Mac, press Ctrl + G
- On Windows, press Alt + G
To switch between your tab and the Gemini in Chrome window:
- On Mac, press Ctrl + ⌘ + G
- On Windows, press Alt + Shift + G
Change the keyboard shortcuts
To choose your own keyboard shortcuts:
- At the top of the Gemini in Chrome window, click More options
Open Chrome settings.
- Next to the keyboard or navigation shortcut, click Edit

- On your keyboard, press the new shortcut.
Share a page to chat with Gemini in Chrome
When you open Gemini in Chrome, the page content from the tab you're on is shared by default. Gemini uses that page content to respond. If you go to a different page on the same tab, Gemini uses the new page. You can stop sharing the page at any time. Learn how Gemini in Chrome works with your data.
Stop sharing a page
- Go to the Gemini in Chrome window.
- In the text box, hover over Sharing, then click Stop sharing page
.
- When the page is no longer shared, the glow from the page’s edges and the screen icon
on the tab disappears.

Share a page
- At the top of your Chrome browser, click Gemini in Chrome
.
- In the text box, click Share current page
.
- This shares the page content from the tab you’re on, and Gemini uses it to respond.
- When Gemini is using a page, the page’s edges glow and its tab shows a screen icon

When you share a Workspace webpage
Gemini may directly access your Workspace account to respond to you about a Workspace webpage (like docs.google.com) that you shared in Chrome. This makes sure that Gemini can, for example, refer to an entire Google doc you’ve asked about instead of only what’s available within the tab. Use connected apps in Gemini in Chrome
Important: We’re gradually releasing connected apps in Gemini in Chrome, so it might not be available to you just yet. Only some apps are available in Gemini in Chrome. Learn about which apps Gemini in Chrome can connect to.
Gemini in Chrome can interact with other apps to provide more helpful responses to your prompts. For example, Gemini in Chrome can help you:
- Find relevant YouTube videos and answer questions you have about the video
- Get location-based information from Google Maps
With your permission, Gemini in Chrome can also help you connect your personal information and content in Google Workspace apps. If you connect Google Workspace apps, Gemini in Chrome can help you get things done with Google Workspace, like:
- Summarize your emails in Gmail
- Add items to Google Tasks
- Create events in Google Calendar
Gemini in Chrome can currently connect to the following apps:
- Google Workspace, which includes:
- Gmail
- Google Calendar
- Google Docs
- Google Drive
- Google Keep
- Google Tasks
- Google Maps
- YouTube
Important: If you turn off an app, it doesn't delete your activity related to that app from your Gemini Apps Activity, or any data shared with and stored by other services. Learn more about how your data works with connected apps.
- At the top of the Gemini in Chrome window, click More options
Open Chrome settings.
- Click Manage connected apps.
- Find the app and turn the app off

- This turns an app on or off for all Gemini Apps, including Gemini in Chrome.

- Follow any on-screen instructions.
Manage permissions for Gemini in Chrome
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top, click More

- In the Settings menu, click AI innovations

- Under “Permissions,” you can turn the following permissions on or off:
- Precise location
- Microphone
- Page content sharing
Tip: If Precise location is on , Gemini can access and use your precise location. If it’s off
, Gemini cannot access and use your precise location, and will only be able to derive an estimated location from your IP address.
Fix or report a problem & give feedback
If you don’t find Gemini in ChromeImportant: Gemini in Chrome is rolling out to users over time, so it may not be available in your country or territory yet.
If Gemini in Chrome is available in your country or territory, try these steps:
- Sign in to your Chrome browser with your Google Account.
- Set your Chrome language to English (United States). Learn how to change your Chrome language.
- Use Chrome in the US and have a US-based Google Account.
- Update your Chrome browser to the latest version. Learn how to update Chrome.
If Gemini in Chrome still doesn’t show, try restarting your Chrome browser.
- At the top of the Gemini in Chrome window, click More
