Google Chat apps can perform actions that are similar to user actions in Google Chat. You can find more information about the permissions that a specific app can request in the app’s listing in the Google Workspace Marketplace.
Tip: If you have a work or school account and you want to know what permissions an app is granted, contact your admin.

Learn the differences between app permissions & space permissions
Generally, space permissions don’t apply to apps. Instead, they’re based on the app's membership in your space. They may also require your admin's consent. Even if permissions only allow space managers to perform an action, an application may still have permission to perform that action if it’s a member of the space and has the appropriate consent. Learn more about space permissions here.
Actions that only require the app to be a space member include:
- Use @all.
- Post in announcement spaces.
- Reply in announcement spaces.
Actions that require admin consent include:
- Change space details.
- Turn history on or off.
- Manage members and groups.
Actions normally limited to space managers can generally be performed by applications in spaces the app created with admin consent. With permission, an app can:
- Manage space managers, which includes promotions, demotions, and deleting membership.
- Manage space permissions.
- Delete the space.
