How can advanced 5G infrastructure revolutionize modern shipping? 💡 Efficient seaports are the backbone of shipping, and the Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) is the first fully electric and carbon-neutral container terminal—a port that is taking advantage of 5G. 🚢 In our latest paper from Chetan Sharma, with contributions from Erik Ekudden, Magnus Ewerbring, and Peter Linder, we introduce an index measuring the maturity of mobile infrastructure, and several use cases across different industries, showcasing 5G’s impact. 🤝 From reducing risk exposure for workers to reducing environmental impact from port operations, relying on private cellular networks makes a difference. The report gives a market overview of the critical 5G radio access network (RAN) infrastructure capabilities, based on how Gartner experts comprehensively and independently assessed vendors who offer 5G solutions for communications service providers (CSPs) on their Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute. 💪 Around half of the world's mobile 5G traffic outside China is carried over Ericsson-powered networks. 🤝 Ericsson can also modernize legacy 4G sites with 5G – achieving 10 times greater capacity and more than 30% energy savings. 🏅 We're currently supporting 187 live 5G networks in 78 countries, of which more than 40 are 5G Standalone 5G networks. What does a 19% growth in mobile network data traffic mean for how we live and work? In the latest update to the June 2025 Ericsson Mobility Report, we’ve added new Q2 data and it shows just how quickly things are changing: ▶️153 million new 5G subscriptions were added in Q2, bringing the global total to 2.6 billion ▶️Mobile network data usage grew 19% year-over-year, now reaching 180 exabytes per month More people are online than ever and the way we use our phones and apps is changing too, from streaming and gaming to getting work done.
