Yet another honor to represent #HCLTech at the WEF’s CSO meet at #LCAW25. In the Session Pathways for Water Resilience, I had the opportunity to share the journey #HCLTech has had on #WaterStewardship: Despite being in a traditionally low water footprint IT industry (changing rapidly with AI coming in), HCLTech has understood water’s critical role: We have minimized our own operational footprint, which now stands at 10 Litres per employee per day, 35% lower than our peers. We have not stopped there. We now regenerate 31 times more water than we consume in our operations. HCLFoundation has been leading our work in community, having regenerated 107+ Billion liters of water in India alone in the last 6 years. Additionally, 3200 acres of ecosystem value enhanced, and 358 water structures restored/created. In 2023, our CEO C Vijayakumar joined the #CEOWaterMandate, the UN Global Compact and the Pacific Institute program to achieve collective positive water impact in 100 priority river basins of the world by 2030, identified by the Water Resilience Coalition (WRC). We are working in the #YamunaRiverbasin in North India with our CEO as the Champion for this initiative. At #HCLGroup level, we have gone beyond our remit to create innovation-led new water ecosystems globally. In 2022, HCL Group partnered with UpLink, the World Economic Forum’s early-stage innovation ecosystem, and the Forum’s Food & Water Initiative, for a 5-year CHF 15 million commitment to drive innovation across the water sector, creating the #Aquapreneur initiative. In 3 years, we’ve run 3 challenges, sourcing 30 water-focused startups or Aquapreneurs. HCL Group provided CHF 5.4 million in non-dilutive funding; these ventures have gone on to raise over $90 million in additional funding. Impact of these Aquapreneurs: SHAYP saved 7 billion litres of water in 2024. Kilimo saved 4.5 billion litres of water in 2024 and has partnered with Amazon, Intel, Microsoft, and Pepsi to advance sustainable water management in agriculture. Aquapreneurs Seabex, FieldFactors were in the room with us sharing their impact. We are launching the #WaterResilienceChallenge calling for early-stage startups focused on building water resilience in infrastructure, agri-food, technology, and energy sectors. Up to 10 winners will each receive CHF 175,000, with access to support from Ecolab, ICLEI, Stanford University Sustainability Accelerator, BlueTech Research, Isle Utilities, Arup, GRUNDFOS, AtkinsRéalis, DCVC, Burnt Island Ventures, Imagine H2O, PureTerra Ventures. Water is central to food security, energy production and climate resilience. Investing in water resilience and nature-based solutions could boost global GDP by up to $150 billion by 2030. As AI reshapes enterprise priorities, HCLTech’s latest global research reveals that 88% of organisations are already shifting to a Product-Aligned Operating Model (PAOM)—but 100% face execution challenges. “Our research highlights that while organisations are embracing the product-aligned operating model, all customers—100% of them—said they face challenges in execution,” said Pawan Vadapalli, corporate VP and global head of digital business services at HCLTech. Unlike Agile or DevOps, PAOM rearchitects the enterprise around value streams, aligning IT directly with business outcomes. Vadapalli explains, “Organisations with a product-aligned operating model are achieving up to 4x higher ROI on their AI investments.” He cited the example of a Swedish equipment manufacturer that now delivers AI-driven use cases every three weeks after adopting this model with HCLTech. To power this transformation, HCLTech offers its proprietary frameworks: Fenix, which rewires enterprise architecture using composable tech layers, and AI Force, which infuses intelligence into existing data pipelines with Responsible AI safeguards. Vadapalli notes, “Fenix is purpose-built to bridge digital strategy and execution,” avoiding vendor lock-in and enabling modular, scalable decisions. While legacy systems, leadership misalignment, and outdated KPIs remain major roadblocks, HCLTech’s value-driven, purpose-led approach is helping enterprises close the gap between strategy and execution. “Without a unified model like this, organisations risk underleveraging their GenAI investments,” Vadapalli warned, underscoring that PAOM is essential for customer-centricity, agility, and long-term resilience.
