Until now, advertising creative has been constrained by time, budget, and scale, forcing the 'big idea' to often be watered down by the realities of production. Today, that paradigm is being shattered. We stand at the precipice of a generational creative revolution, where the most audacious ideas are not only feasible but are rapidly becoming the new benchmark of success.
To help lead the charge, Google is actively partnering with several of the industry's most talented creative shops through our Google AI Lighthouse Program. This annual initiative, which we recently showcased at the Cannes Lions festival, involves challenging a select group of leading agencies with a simple brief: "Create an impossible ad by infusing Google AI throughout the development process to supercharge your creative campaign." The goal was to show how the impossible becomes possible and collectively define the next era of marketing.
The response was remarkable. Using Google's AI suite—from the versatile ideation power of Gemini to the cinematic generation of Veo and other less known tools like Chirp 3—these agencies turned impossible assignments into groundbreaking work. These are among the first agencies and brands truly demonstrating what the future with AI and creativity will look like. Below are five examples that highlight how the industry's most ambitious creative challenges are being solved with Google AI.
1. Reviving an impossible vibe: Slice & BarkleyOKRP
To relaunch the iconic 80s and 90s soda Slice, BarkleyOKRP didn't just create an ad; they resurrected a cultural moment. They used Gemini to identify surprising cultural trends and build a world around them, manifesting as a fictional (but very real) analog radio station, 106.3 The Fizz in LA. They used Google AI to concoct hundreds of on-brand songs and artists, Imagen to churn out soda-infused album art, and Veo to bring AI-generated music stars to life. It was a wild, immersive experience that showcased how AI can build not just assets, but an entire brand atmosphere.
2. Achieving impossible consistency: Moncler & R/GA
For a luxury brand like Moncler, brand consistency is everything. Their "impossible" challenge was maintaining cinematic quality and the jacket's signature sheen across every single frame of an AI-generated film. R/GA achieved this by using Gemini as an AI coding partner to build a custom tool called "Shot Flow." This sophisticated engine orchestrated all of Google's generative AI tools, ensuring hyper-specific details were perfectly replicated. It was a masterclass in creative control, proving that AI in the right hands can enhance and protect a luxury brand’s most vital assets.
3. Engineering an impossible experience: Smirnoff & McCann
How do you make a brand the go-to for a generation that craves unique experiences? For Smirnoff, McCann took on the "Transformational Experiences" challenge with a concept for a custom AI co-host. The engine is designed to chat with guests, learn their personalities and quirks, and then fuse them into a completely bespoke party theme that evolves in real time as each guest RSVPs —recommending everything from the decor and playlist to a custom Smirnoff cocktail. This moved beyond advertising into active participation, proving AI can create deeply personal and memorable brand interactions.
4. Building an impossible world: Visit Orlando & Razorfish
The challenge for Visit Orlando was to reveal a city of hidden gems beyond its famous theme parks. Answering the call for ambitious world-building, Razorfish created "The Morelandos," a delightful cast of characters inspired by real traveler stories. A custom Vertex AI system scraped thousands of Google reviews, which Gemini and Imagen then magically transformed into 1,200 unique characters representing different local spots. This is world-building at a scale previously unthinkable, turning thousands of data points into an authentic, explorable universe for visitors of the sunshine state.
5. Delivering impossible personalization: Virgin Voyages
The team at Virgin Voyages faced the challenge of "Personalization at Scale." Their goal was to give every potential customer a unique preview of a future dream vacation. They leveraged Gemini and Imagen to create distinct "postcard" ads tailored to peoples’ interests and past behavior on the Virgin Voyages website. Taking it a step further, the tech allowed users to upload their own pictures to appear in their personalized, shareable postcard, merging data-driven retargeting with user-generated content to make a future vacation feel tangible and real.
Creative excellence remains the undying soul of advertising, now powerfully augmented by the capabilities of AI. These examples are just the beginning, a compelling answer to a formidable brief, demonstrating what happens when human ingenuity is supercharged by pioneering technology. As Google continues its unparalleled partnership with the industry’s most visionary minds, we are not just building capabilities; we are collectively defining and showcasing the truly transformative future of marketing—a future where human creativity is unleashed like never before.
