  • “All data center operators should consider integrating advanced power smoothing and energy storage technologies to optimize peak power consumption, enable increased compute density, and save on operating costs.”   We couldn’t agree more with NVIDIA on the importance of advanced power management. Electrolytic capacitors can usually cover power pulses of 0.01 seconds, which can be slightly extended. However, training profiles require anywhere from 0.2 to even 2 seconds, which Skeleton's #GrapheneGPU can cover in full, and enable even higher energy savings of 40% compared to today's best-in-class setups.

  • Q&A: #Supercapacitors vs. #Batteries?  The speed and lifetime are significantly different ➡️ Supercapacitors provide energy instantly (in microsecond), while batteries often need seconds or longer. This speed is critical for frequency and voltage stabilization, where delays can cause disruption.  Supercapacitors ➡️ can withstand many more charge and discharge cycles (over 1M cycles), while batteries wear out significantly faster, which increases overall costs in the long run.  The grids of the future are more challenging ➡️ The increase in the share of renewable energy increases the variability of the grid and the risk of disruption, old operating models are no longer enough. Grids need to be more flexible and respond faster, which makes supercapacitors even more important.  Risk management and continuity ➡️ Even if the grid has operated without supercapacitors, this does not mean that it can withstand unexpected disruptions or future load peaks. A supercapacitor is a kind of insurance: it reduces financial risks and production interruptions, which can be costly.  Collaboration with other technologies ➡️ A supercapacitor does not replace batteries or other systems but complements them. It provides a quick energy buffer when batteries or generators start up or need support.  Considering the total cost of ownership ➡️ Batteries may seem more affordable as an initial investment, but supercapacitors offer a longer service life and lower maintenance costs. Cost-effectiveness comes into play especially when it comes to minimizing downtime and disruptions.  --- Did anything surprise you? What would you like to hear about next? • 💡 Q&A: How can supercapacitors help stabilize an unstable grid? Supercapacitors are not a substitute for protection relays or physical infrastructure, but they play a critical role in enhancing grid resilience and dynamic stability. When integrated into a well-designed power system, they can significantly reduce the likelihood and impact of disturbances. ⚡ Fast frequency response and grid stabilization   Supercapacitors excel at delivering high power in short bursts, making them ideal for frequency regulation and grid balancing during transient events. Their near-instantaneous response helps mitigate sudden load-generation mismatches that can lead to cascading failures or blackouts. ⚡ Black start and system recovery   In the aftermath of a grid failure, supercapacitors can supply immediate power to restart key systems or stabilize voltage long enough for slower assets (e.g., batteries, generators) to come online. This capability shortens recovery time and enhances overall system reliability. ⚡ Disturbance damping and risk reduction   By supporting voltage and frequency stability during fault conditions, supercapacitors help contain localized issues before they propagate. This reduces the risk of wide-area outages, especially in systems with a high share of renewables or low inertia. In short, supercapacitors are a valuable layer in the defence against grid instability — fast, responsive, and reliable under pressure. #Supercapacitors #Grid #PowerSystem #Stabilization

  • "As representatives of European companies deeply committed to the European project and to the development of trustworthy, human-centric #AI, we are convinced that Europe has a unique opportunity to lead in the global AI economy. That opportunity will only be realised if we act now and with determination and collaboration at its core." As part of the EU AI Champions Initiative, our CEO Taavi Madiberk co-signed this open letter to President von der Leyen and the European Commission, alongside more than 45 CEOs from European companies like Guillaume Faury (Airbus), Christophe Fouquet (ASML), Arthur Mensch (Mistral AI), Dr. Christian Bruch (Siemens Energy), Patrick Pouyanné (TotalEnergies), and Ingo Uytdehaage (Adyen NV), and many more. We are convinced that Europe has a unique opportunity to lead in the global AI economy but we believe that this ambition is at risk, not because of a lack of will, but due to the increasing complexity, overlap, and pace of regulatory implementation. This is why we are asking the European Commission to implement a two-year “clock-stop” on key AI Act obligations, and to use this window to simplify and align the digital regulatory landscape. This would send innovators and investors around the world a strong signal that Europe is serious about its simplification and competitiveness agenda.

  • In the last quarter, we launched the GrapheneGPU, which addresses the biggest challenges facing AI data centers: energy inefficiency and power infrastructure limitations. This technology is the result of Skeleton’s R&D work, and we are proud to bring it to market at a time when the world urgently needs energy-saving technologies to keep AI growth sustainable. The world is increasingly concerned about AI data centers and their energy consumption. Data centers worldwide consume an estimated 1–2% of the world’s electricity, and as AI computing power increases, their energy consumption will increase significantly. This is especially concerning from a climate change perspective. Although our society have already taken significant and big steps in the deployment of renewable energy, which significantly reduces the global carbon footprint, we must remember that operating energy consumption in the AI data center sector is not yet green unless we simultaneously develop smart solutions that ensure energy availability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental first direction in a comprehensive manner, both to support the growth of AI and the electrical grid infrastructure that data centers need to stay running. How does GrapheneGPU specifically help AI data centers? - It improves energy efficiency by reducing heat generation by up to 45 %. This lowers operating costs, removes the need for artificial workloads and cuts operational carbon footprint. - It boosts the performance of existing GPUs. With GrapheneGPU, data centers can unlock up to 40 % more compute without adding new hardware. - It reduces the need for grid power by up to 44 %. This supports more independent operation and eases strain on local power infrastructure. We know that AI data centers are significant energy consumers and have a growing impact on climate change, but the impact depends heavily on how energy is produced and how data centers are optimized for energy efficiency. If solutions like GrapheneGPU were not implemented to address the growing energy consumption of data centers, energy consumption would grow uncontrollably, the carbon footprint of data centers would increase, and electricity grids would be overloaded. This would increase the risk of power outages and, at the same time, raise electricity prices, negatively affecting the costs of both data centers and other consumers. Therefore, GrapheneGPU offers AI data centers the opportunity to jump to the next level: more computing power with lower overall energy consumption and better thermal management. Saving both, CAPEX & OPEX. We believe there is a better way to grow AI. A way where performance and sustainability go hand in hand. A way where AI doesn’t come at the cost of the climate. Because AI can’t solve climate change — Skeleton ensures it works for the planet, not against it. #GrapheneGPU #AI #DataCenters #EnergyConsumption #EnergyEfficiency #Grid #PowerInfrastructure #CarbonFootprint #NetZeroFuture

  • "Every single generator that is locked into the grid is producing a smooth sine wave of power. And they're all at the exact same frequency all the time."   Electricity feels like magic—until you understand how fragile it really is. Behind every light switch is a precise choreography of synchronized turbines, each spinning in perfect time to keep the grid stable. In this Current Affairs clip with Robert West, CFA, leading voice in energy economics from Thunder Said Energy, we unpack how even a tiny mismatch in demand and supply can ripple through the system, slow down turbines, and trigger cascading blackouts. The rise of renewables makes this balancing act even trickier. 🎧 Don't miss the full episode on Current Affairs—streaming YouTube and Spotify. #EnergyStorage #GridStability #VirtualInertia #Renewables #CurrentAffairsPodcast
