Ofichem Group Acquires Meribel Pharma Solutions’ Uppsala Site ▶️ Ofichem, a European #CDMO specialising in high-quality active pharmaceutical ingredients (#APIs) and integrated drug development and manufacturing services, has acquired Meribel Pharma Solutions’ site in Uppsala, Sweden. The Uppsala site, formerly part of Recipharm and known as OT CHEMISTRY, specialises in small-scale, early-phase development work. The facility spans traditional small molecule and emerging modalities such as antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), oligonucleotides and proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs), expanding Ofichem’s non-GMP capabilities in early-stage development.  (...) Clariant Catalysts and Shanghai Electric Launch Alliance Clariant, a sustainability-focused specialty chemical company, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai Boiler Works Ltd., a full subsidiary of Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd, specializing in energy conversion and the development of new energy applications, to jointly foster innovation in sustainable energy solutions. The partners will combine their expertise to advance #greenenergy projects in China. The agreement is the result of close and successful cooperation in Shanghai Electric’s new biomass-to-green #methanol plant in Taonan, Jilin Province, China. Asahi Kasei Expands Planova Production with New Spinning Plant ▶️ Asahi Kasei Life Science, a division of global manufacturer Asahi Kasei, announced plans to construct a new spinning plant for its Planova virus removal filters in Nobeoka City, Miyazaki, #Japan. The new facility will be the company’s fourth spinning plant for hollow-fiber cellulose membrane filters. Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2026, with operations starting in January 2030. The initiative, backed by a grant from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), aligns with Asahi Kasei’s recently announced medium-term management plan “Trailblaze Together,” which positions the Life Science business as a key driver of future growth. VCI Welcomes US-EU Customs Deal The German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) welcomes the fact that Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and US President Donald Trump have averted the danger of a trade war for the time being. The United States and the European Union have agreed to a trade framework imposing a 15% #tariff on most goods, preventing significantly higher duties that threatened both economies. The deal, reached on Sunday after talks between President Donald Trump and EU Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland, followed months of tense negotiations ahead of a looming tariff deadline. VCI Managing Director Wolfgang Große Entrup comments: "Anyone expecting a hurricane is grateful for a storm. A further escalation could be avoided. Nevertheless, the price for both sides is high. Boehringer Ingelheim Paves the Way for Important Market Launches ▶️ Boehringer Ingelheim recorded positive growth in the first half of 2025 with an increase in Group sales of 6.3% to € 14 billion. This development is driven by strong demand for key products in Human Pharma, in particular Jardiance at € 4.3 billion and OFEV at € 2.0 billion, which continue to make a significant difference for patients worldwide. Building on this momentum, #Boehringer Ingelheim is advancing its late-stage pipeline, with several therapies close to regulatory approval. These include zongertinib for HER2-mutated lung cancer and nerandomilast for pulmonary fibrosis, both of which recently delivered positive approval results and are working towards a potential launch in the second half of 2025. Air Liquide Invests € 250 Million to Support the #Semiconductor Industry Air Liquide has been awarded a long-term contract to build new state-of-the-art industrial gas production facilities in the heart of "Silicon #Saxony" in Dresden. Under this new long-term contract, Air Liquide will supply large quantities of high-purity gases directly to the production site of a major customer in the semiconductor industry. The planned #investment of more than € 250 million is Air Liquide's largest investment to support the electronics industry in Europe and strengthens the Group's leading position on the continent.
