Pendant des années, le système de l’Apartheid a séparé les populations. Les luttes ont été longues et violentes. La figure emblématique de la lutte contre ce racisme systémique est bien entendu Nelson Mandela. Mais aujourd’hui, une très grande majorité des citoyens aspirent à un vivre ensemble plus apaisé.
La proclamation de Heritage Day, célébré chaque 24 septembre, permet de mieux comprendre l’unité dans la diversité du pays et l’importance de tourner la page de l’Apartheid.

Do you know what is behind these words?
Pain, struggle, humiliation, patience, impatience, resilience, death and hope.
In this unit, you will learn how the actions of ordinary people made them heroes who contributed to their country’s history.
We will see the historical background and the context.
You will be able to describe and analyze an iconic painting by Norman Rockwell, a painting that carries with it all the complexity and cruelty of the period as well as all the courage, hope and lessons we can learn from it.
