  • Last night, Bettina Schaller, President of the World Employment Confederation and Co-Chair of the B20 Employment & Education Taskforce, joined global leaders at the IOE-B20 Dinner Dialogue to explore the topic of Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Work. 💡''The well-regulated Private Employment Services Industry is leading the charge in training, re- and upskilling the workforce of today and the future, on all fronts: ensuring that Recruiters and HR Professionals use technology in the most productive and ethical way for the benefit of job searchers, offering literacy and training opportunities to candidates and workers to ensure that no one is left behind, and working with businesses to develop training curricula for their respective talent''. 👏 We thank the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and B20 South Africa for convening this important conversation and look forward to continued collaboration in shaping the future of work. #IOE #B20 #PrivateEmploymentServices #WorldEmploymentConfederation #FutureOfWork #AI #Upskilling #EthicalTech

  • At first glance, the International Labour Conference’s (ILC) discussions to establish global regulatory standards on platform work might seem distant or overly technical. But understanding these developments isn’t just about compliance – it’s about foresight. As our Public Affairs Manager Michael Freytag explains in this article for The Global Recruiter - The independent voice of the staffing industry, this is a moment for growth-seeking #recruitment leaders to tune in, not tune out.

  • #AI isn’t coming. It’s already here, transforming #recruitment in real-time. The question isn’t whether to use it but how to use it well. At our annual conference #WEC2025SouthAfrica we were lucky to have Adam Hawkins and Audrey Lartey from LinkedIn to discuss what truly gives recruitment firms a competitive edge, now that #digital tools are more accessible than ever. Here are some insights they shared ▶️

  • Great insights from our Indian National Federation member Indian Staffing Federation about the value of the temporary #staffing model! This is a well-regulated flexible form of work that enables both workers and employers to meet their needs. And in countries where #informality levels are still high, it is a formidable path to formal, decent #work.

Mint carried the Oped headlined "The temporary staffing model beats gig employment hollow". India's gig economy is booming, but temp staffing offers a better path for workers, businesses, and the government. Unlike gig work, temp staffing provides structured pay (10-15% higher), statutory benefits like provident fund and health insurance, and skill development opportunities, with 23% of temp workers transitioning to permanent roles annually. With 6.2M temp workers in 2024, projected to hit 12M by 2030, this model supports India’s goal to formalize 50% of its 400M+ informal workforce by 2047. Transparent platforms reduce exploitation, unlike the opaque gig ecosystem. • Tanzania Human Resource and Administration Professionals Association (THRAPA) is our Member of the Month! THRAPA joined our community as a new National Federation member in April 2025. As Denis Derua, Secretary General of THRAPA, explains, joining WEC is a strategic move that strengthens his organisation's mission: “This membership will help us raise the bar for HR & Admin practices in Tanzania and ensure our members benefit from a more structured, ethical, and effective service environment. THRAPA will stand out as a professional association with global affiliation, committed to delivering employment and HR services in line with international standards.” For WEC, the arrival of THRAPA expands our footprint in Africa where we already count APSO (South Africa) and Manpower Egypt - Target HR (Egypt) as members. 🔎 Learn more about THRAPA: https://lnkd.in/e-BHefrp

  • 👀 Some interesting new insights from our Labour Market Intelligence Partner Lightcast about #AI & #skills ⤵️ Our research The Work We Want shows that 81% of senior executives believe that AI and other tech disruptions will force organisations to radically rethink skills and resources across large areas of the workforce and 78% are concerned that they can’t train employees fast enough. ❓How can we accelerate our readiness for an AI-disrupted world? #TheWorkWeWant

🌀 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦? At a roundtable I spoke at recently, someone said something that really stuck with me: “Normally, educators look to industry to understand what to teach. But with AI, both are figuring it out at the same time.” That perfectly captures what makes this disruption different. 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱. And that leaves educators - and employers - navigating in the dark. So how do we track something that’s changing this fast? Job postings data has been a go-to for surfacing emerging trends. But with AI, it’s messy: 🤔 Employers don’t always know what to ask for ⚠️ Buzzwords can drown out substance 📚 Many are reskilling internally, without posting at all Still, I believe job postings remain one of the best signals we have. Not because they’re precise - but because they’re directionally correct. And 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁, 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. 𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁. 📖 I wrote more on this on Lightcast blog, including where job postings help, where they fall short, and how we’re building new tools to go deeper. (Link in comments) ❓ Curious - what signals or datasets are you using to track the labour market impact of AI?

  • 🔍 OECD - OCDE’s New Report Highlights the Power of Skills-First Hiring 🔍 As the report reveals, embracing a #skills-first approach—where competencies take precedence over formal credentials—can unlock more inclusive, agile, and resilient labour markets. Our own research The Work We Want reports that 82% of business leaders consider that traditional approaches to recruiting #talent are no longer fit for purpose. Key takeaways: 📌Skills-first hiring improves job matching and adaptability. 📌#Digital platforms are reshaping how individuals signal their skills. 📌Barriers remain: unequal access to tools, validation challenges, and employer trust in non-traditional credentials. 📌Policy action is needed to standardise skills recognition and invest in lifelong #learning. 🎯 At WEC, we believe this is a pivotal moment to redefine how we think about #work and talent. Let’s build labour markets that works for everyone—where skills are the currency of opportunity. • The global labour market is evolving fast in Q2 2025. What’s driving the change - and where are the pressure points? 📈 Global GDP growth has slowed to 2.9%, with inflation rising to 4.2%—largely due to new U.S. trade tariffs and economic uncertainty. 😐 Despite these headwinds, unemployment remains stable across most regions. 🕳️ Talent shortages are easing overall, but critical gaps persist—especially in healthcare and tech. 🤖 AI skills are in high demand globally. Asia and Africa are leading, while Europe must accelerate digital upskilling to stay competitive. 📉 Agency work is declining in Europe and the U.S., but growing in Asia and Latin America—highlighting regional shifts in workforce models. 🔄 The flexible workforce sector is undergoing a transformation - driven by AI, shifting skill demands, and macroeconomic uncertainty.
