Last week, our team – Timothy Dobney, Gary Harrison and Alaina Chen – had a great time attending and connecting with leaders in the public funds space at the Opal Group Funds Summit East 2025 in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island. Tim, Investment Director, Infrastructure, also took the stage to share his insights during a panel on strategies for institutional investors in real estate, infrastructure, and real assets. Some key themes Tim touched on included: - Infrastructure assets – such as power grids, airports, and data centres – are essential services with monopolistic characteristics, stable revenues, and inflation protection baked in. - How the surge in data center growth, fueled by exponential AI adoption, highlights the way infrastructure is evolving to meet the needs of a digital economy. - And what he believes is the mega-trend of our generation: the energy transition. With trillions in investment needed to support electrification and renewables, this shift is driving massive long-term opportunities. A big thank you to the organisers and fellow panelists for an engaging conversation – and to everyone who stopped by to connect. This week we launched an important white paper on “Addressing Modern Slavery in Investment Portfolios”. Compounding the unacceptable human cost, for investors, modern slavery has the potential to pose a material investment risk that can erode value, fracture stakeholder trust and expose portfolios to mounting legal liabilities. We believe investors must embed modern slavery considerations across the investment cycle, go beyond company disclosures for data, and use their governance influence through voting and stewardship. Thank you to the panel that discussed this important issue at the launch: Chris Evans, Australia’s Anti-Slavery Commissioner, Cath Bowtell, Chair of IFM Investors, Vanessa Zimmerman, Founder and CEO of Pillar Two, Antonia Parkes, Senior Director, ESG & Stewardship at AustralianSuper, Liza McDonald GAICD Head of Responsible Investment at Aware Super, and Rena Pulido for hosting. And thank you to Maria Nazarova-Doyle, CFA for launching the paper. Read the full white paper here: https://lnkd.in/gdnqHwXt

IFM Investors is pleased to announce an agreement to acquire 75% of Air Rail, the largest airport ground support equipment (“GSE”) owner and lessor in Spain and Portugal. Air Rail’s founder, José Manuel García Prieto, will retain a 25% shareholding in the company. Air Rail is a leading provider of GSE leasing and maintenance services in Spain and Portugal, serving customers at over 50 European airports. The acquisition is expected to support Air Rail’s growth, drawing on IFM’s extensive expertise in the airports sector through decades of experience across 16 airports, which serve over 230 million passengers annually, across the United Kingdom, Europe, North America and Australia. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed later this year. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gwyH4HDj

Sadly, modern slavery remains embedded in the global economy and by extension, in the portfolios of institutional investors across the world. Today, we launched a new white paper titled “Addressing Modern Slavery in Investment Portfolios”. We believe combatting modern slavery risks requires coordinated action across the investment ecosystem—asset owners, managers, companies, regulators, governments, civil society, and affected communities. Importantly, this paper is a collaboration with other investors and sustainability leaders, including AustralianSuper, Aware Super and Nest pensions. We also thank the contribution of Australia’s Anti-Slavery Commissioner Chris Evans, AustralianSuper's Antonia Parkes, Aware Super's Liza McDonald GAICD, Nest Pensions' Tom Sanders, Leslie Swynghedauw from MSCI Inc., Namit Agarwal and Jill van de Walle from World Benchmarking Alliance and Hilkka Komulainen representing the UK Taskforce on Social Factors.
