Free, no subscription, offline. Light meter for film. LiDAR, reciprocity, ND filters, camera profiles, exposure timer with Dynamic Island. Complete workflow in one app.
FilmMeter turns your iPhone into a professional light meter for film cameras. Real-time metering, LiDAR ranging, reciprocity calculation, and exposure logging — one app covers your entire shooting workflow from loading film to the final frame.
Metering
Measure exposure in real-time using your iPhone camera. Spot metering reads any point precisely, while average metering balances the whole scene. Full control over aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. iPhone 16 users can meter and adjust EV directly with the Camera Control button.
Ranging & Depth of Field
Get accurate focus distance with LiDAR-enabled devices. The depth of field scale shows your sharp range and hyperfocal distance, supporting 35mm (full frame) and medium format calculations.
Camera Management
Create profiles for your cameras and lenses. Set focal length and aperture range for each lens, then link a camera when loading film — aperture selection is automatically constrained to your lens's actual range. Manage your digital film bag the way you manage your real gear.
Film Roll Management
Create a roll, select your film stock, start shooting. Push/pull processing support lets you set development stops and automatically converts to effective ISO. Each metering links to your current roll automatically. The frame counter tracks remaining shots. Mark rolls as in progress, finished, or developed.
ND Filters
Built-in support for ND2 through ND10000. Select a filter and exposure is compensated automatically — no manual stop conversion needed. Pair with the long exposure timer to master daytime slow shutter work.
Reciprocity Compensation
Film loses sensitivity during long exposures. FilmMeter includes reciprocity data for popular film stocks and calculates the corrected shutter time automatically.
Long Exposure Timer
Long-press the metering button to start a countdown. The timer integrates with Dynamic Island — visible even when locked. Get notified when your exposure completes. No more counting seconds for star trails or light painting.
Smart Exposure Suggestions
Built-in scene recognition analyzes your frame. In tricky lighting like snow, backlight, or night scenes, it tells you "add one stop" instead of leaving you to figure it out.
Exposure Log
Every metering saves full parameters and location. Export to CSV. Review your decisions, build your film notes.

Designed for film photography. Professional enough for experienced shooters, simple enough for beginners.
I started looking for a basic light meter app, but when I found out what this app could do it quickly made itself indispensable.I originally had a Rollei 35s with a broken meter, and this app provided two very useful things: 1) proper exposure settings and 2) a rangefinder to help nail focus for wider apertures with a zone focusing camera.I now use it with a SLR, and the ability to swap lenses is a nice touch. It helps me track what I shot on film as well, by saving images and being able to go back to them for proper date and geotagging. The only issues I’ve had so far are: Every once in a while the metering gets stuck and doesn’t update properly. Closing the app and restarting solves that. The other issue is that the camera control changes exposure compensation, and I wish there was a way you could turn that feature off. I’ve had a few shots where I had accidentally changed the exposure without realizing it because the button is very easy to trigger. In all, it’s a great app, especially once you learn how to use it!
A Fantastic Application - Infinitely Useful

In a world where everyone is trying to sell you something, it’s refreshing to see others supporting the community with great tools. The tool can be used as a one tool solution for anything related to film photography. This is something I’m planning to do myself with my own social media presence, and I embrace the concept.
Love it!!
Though Old Lenses
Found this through a post on Threads, downloaded, and loaded up several cameras and lenses. Couldn’t be more excited as I tested out while at home on a cold winter day!!! Appreciated and applaud your contribution to us filmies!
Developer Response
Really glad you found it useful! Enjoy your shoots when the weather warms up.
Nice app very helpful
ALT255
Great app but needs an ability to set custom shutter speed, as you offer pre sets but the camera I have has a max of 1/400 and that is not a current value that can be selectedAlso give the ability to add custom filters as I use ND filters and the app only appears to have black and white and color type filters
