The ISBN system was introduced in Pakistan in 1984. In the same year, the National Library of Pakistan, Islamabad, was officially designated as the National ISBN Agency by the International ISBN Agency, London. Operational activities began on May 16, 1985. Since then, the Agency has overseen the registration of publishers and the allocation of ISBNs across the country.

- Over 121,000 ISBNs have been issued to Pakistani publications.
- Approximately 5,000 publishers have been registered under the system.
Data Management and Updates
Publisher data is obtained through official registration forms and updated regularly based on new ISBN requests. Updated records are shared with the International ISBN Agency to ensure global visibility. Publishers are encouraged to inform the Agency of any changes in their contact details.
