Important:
- An ID pass in Google Wallet isn't a government-issued ID or a replacement for your physical ID so keep that with you as needed.
- ID passes are currently only available in the U.S. & UK and require a U.S. or UK passport.
- You can use ID passes created from US passports at supported TSA checkpoints, even if you don't have a REAL ID driver's license or state ID. ID passes created from UK passports can’t be used at TSA checkpoints.
Requirements to create & use an ID pass
- You need a phone with Android 9 or up.
- You need a valid U.S. or UK Passport.
- To use this feature, you must turn on Bluetooth and Nearby devices.
- To use this feature for added security, you must set a screen lock.
- This feature is only available in the U.S and UK.
- Your passport can't be linked to an existing ID pass on Google Wallet on any of your devices.
Create an ID pass
How to create your ID pass in Google Wallet
- On your Android device, open the Google Wallet app

- At the bottom, tap Add to Google Wallet
.
- Tap ID
ID Pass.
- Tap Get Started.
- Scan your passport info page.
- Scan the security chip in your passport:
- For US: Inside back cover
- For UK: Front cover
- For verification, record a video of your face.
- Tap Continue
Done.
Tip:
- You’ll receive a notification after verification completion.
- If you're still having trouble, refer to can’t find security chip.
Remove an ID pass
Important: Your ID pass is encrypted and stored in Google Wallet. You can create only one ID pass from a passport.
You can remove your ID pass with either the Google Wallet app, or online at myaccount.google.com.
Remove your ID pass with the Google Wallet app
- On your Android device, open the Google Wallet app

- Scroll to find your ID pass.
- Tap your ID pass.
- At the top right, tap More

- Go to myaccount.google.com.
- Tap Personal info.
- Scroll to "IDs.”
- Tap Manage IDs.
- Select the ID you want to remove.
- Next to the ID pass, tap Delete

- Confirm that you want to delete your ID pass.
Use your ID pass
To verify your identity, you can use your digital ID pass in Google Wallet instead of your physical ID. A digital ID pass is a valid document with the same restrictions as your physical ID.
Use your ID pass with:
- For U.S. passport holders, your ID pass can be used with TSA at supported airports. Carry your physical ID as needed.
- Use your ID pass at supporting apps, websites and in-store locations for age and identity verification, such as for the purchase of age-discounted Railcards.

Important:
- An ID pass in Google Wallet isn't a government-issued ID or a replacement for your physical ID. You must still carry your physical ID as needed.
- ID passes don't support international travel.
- For U.S. passport holders only, you can use your ID pass with TSA security for domestic travel within the U.S. at supported airports, even if you don't have a REAL ID driver's license or state ID.
- Unlock your phone.
- For a few seconds, hold the back of your phone close to the NFC terminal.
- Review the shared info.
- Tap Continue if you want to proceed or tap Cancel if you don’t want to share the info.
- Before you can proceed, Google Wallet will ask you to authenticate.
- To confirm that the info was shared, wait for the blue check mark.
Tip: If you aren’t able to share your ID:
- Try to hold your phone in a different position. Your NFC antenna could be near the top or bottom of your device.
- Make sure to hold your phone closer to the reader for a few extra seconds.
- On your Android device, open the Google Wallet app

- Scroll to find your ID pass.
- Select your ID pass.
- Scan the QR code on your ID pass with the reader.
- Review the shared info.
- To proceed, tap Share.
- If you don’t want to share the info, tap Cancel.
- Before you can proceed, Google Wallet will authenticate you.
- To confirm that the info was shared, wait for the blue check mark.
Tip: If the QR code on your ID pass won’t scan, try to:
- Keep your phone steady or place it on a flat surface.
- Scan the QR code in a well-lit location.
- Make sure that the QR code is clearly visible.
Verify your identity with other apps
Some apps and websites accept a digital ID Pass in Google Wallet for identity and age verification. If the app accepts digital IDs, it prompts you to use them during verification. You can review and share your info. The app then asks you to authenticate.
Tip: To use your digital ID with other apps, review the steps in the connected app. The steps might vary.
Fix problems with your ID pass
Can’t find security chipImportant:
Your passport should contain a security chip:
- For US: Inside back cover
- For UK: Front cover
If you can’t find the security chip:
For US:
- Place your passport on a flat surface.
- Open your passport back cover.
- To scan, remove your phone case.
- To find the chip, slowly move the back of your phone around the inside back cover.
For UK:
- Place your passport on a flat surface.
- Open your passport front cover.
- To scan, remove your phone case.
- To find the chip, slowly move the back of your phone around the front cover.
Make sure you:
- Use a valid passport that belongs to you.
- Don’t already have an ID pass.
Your passport ID pass can only be added to one device. If you want to add your passport to a different device, you must first remove it from your current device. On your new device, create a new ID pass.
Tip: If you don't have access to the original device you created the passport ID pass, you must remove your ID pass online remotely.If you lose your phone, you can follow the instructions above to remove your ID.

Privacy for ID passes
To protect your privacy and security, Google uses your passport and a brief video of your face to verify it’s you and to create your ID pass. Google uses your passport info to confirm that the passport is valid and accurate, reviews the video to make sure you're a real person, and then compares the video to your passport photo to make sure you're the owner of the passport.
Once verified, we’ll use your passport info to create your ID pass. Your ID pass will be saved and encrypted in Google Wallet, where only you can view and share it.
You’re in control. You control when and how info from your ID pass is shared. You can also delete your ID pass anytime following the instructions listed above.
Any data handled by Google will be done in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy, including data used to meet our legal obligations, for analytics, to maintain and improve ID passes, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
