Changes to the Google Maps follow feature

Important: From September 2025, you’ll no longer be able to follow a Google Maps contributor or have profile followers.

To help you prepare for this change, here are a few things to know:

  • Data deletion: All data related to your followers and who you follow will be deleted after the feature is removed.
  • Follow requests and profile visibility: You can still hide or unhide content in your profile settings. This change doesn't impact your profile visibility. Since there will be no more followers, you won't need to approve or reject them on your restricted profile. Control who finds your Google Maps contributions.
  • No action required: You don’t need to do anything. This change will happen automatically.

Tip: You can continue to connect with Google Maps contributors on Local Guides Connect. To explore and find new places, you can also continue to create lists in Google Maps.

Check who you’re following

  1. Open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Account Circle and then Your profile and then Following.
