The many faces of diabetes. Is there a need for re-classification? A narrative review
Sakran N et al., examine the physiological mechanisms in diabetes, risks for complications, the effects of bariatric and metabolic surgery and sheds a light on whether diabetes should be reclassified.
A cohort study by Zhang L et al., identified that gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) reoccurred in nearly half of women with a history of GDM. Also, risk factors for recurrent GDM and newly diagnosed GDM were shown to be different.

Aims and scope
BMC Endocrine Disorders is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that considers articles on the characterization, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of endocrine disorders.
The journal welcomes submissions covering the following broad areas of research:
- Clinical, basic and translational science studies that provide insights into the pathophysiology
- Molecular and cell biology
- Genetics, pharmacology, or epidemiology of endocrine disorders.
- Surgical advancements and new technologies aiding in the diagnosis, monitoring and computational modelling of endocrine disorders
As a BMC Series journal, BMC Endocrine Disorders does not make editorial decisions based on the perceived interest or potential impact of a study. Manuscripts are considered for publication if they are scientifically valid. For research articles, this includes having a clearly defined and sound research question, appropriate methodology and analysis, and adherence to community-agreed standards relevant to the field.
