Privacy Policy for Blackbox

Developer: Shapes & Stories LLC
Last Updated: October 17, 2026

I built Blackbox with privacy as a core principle. I collect minimal data, I don't use advertising trackers, I don't sell anything to anyone, and most of your data never leaves your device.

What I Collect (and Why)

Anonymous Usage Data
I collect basic analytics to understand how people use Blackbox and to fix bugs. This includes:

This data is anonymous. I can't connect it back to you personally, and I never try to.

Location (Optional Features)
Some special features use your location. This location data is stored only in your iCloud and synced across your devices. It never goes to my servers, and I never see it. You control it entirely through iOS location permissions.

Game Center
If you use Game Center, Apple handles that data through their system. I only see what Game Center publicly shows (usernames, achievements, leaderboards).

Device Layout
To put on-screen controls next to your iPhone's physical buttons, Blackbox downloads a list of iPhone button layouts from my device-data service. The list is the same for every player and contains nothing about you, and the service keeps no logs of these requests.

What I Don't Collect

Third-Party Services

I use a few outside services to help run Blackbox:

Firebase (Google)

I use Firebase for analytics, crash reporting, push notifications, and performance monitoring. Firebase collects your anonymous UUID, device info, usage patterns, and crash reports. I've configured it not to use IDFA.

Instabug

I use Instabug for in-app support. If you contact me through the app:

I only see this information when you reach out.

ContextSDK

This helps me avoid interrupting you with prompts and notifications when you're busy or less likely to want them. To pick a better moment, it looks at things like your motion, battery level, and screen brightness. All of that processing happens on your device, and nothing gets sent to ContextSDK's servers.

Telemetry Deck

Telemetry Deck is an analytics service that automatically anonymizes all identifiers on your device before they're sent. I use it to see which features are popular and to make sure challenges aren't broken.

Your Control

Delete Everything: Delete the app. You can manage your iCloud data in iOS Settings > Apple ID > iCloud.

Notifications: Manage them in iOS Settings > Blackbox > Notifications, or fine-tune them in the app.

Questions: Email me at [email protected].

Your Rights (GDPR/CCPA)

If you're in the EU or California, you have the right to request information about what data I collect and to request deletion. However, since most data I collect is anonymous and can't be tied back to you personally, there's usually nothing I can identify as "yours" to delete or provide.

If you have specific concerns, email me at [email protected]

A Few Legal Things

Location: Shapes & Stories LLC is a California company. If you're outside the US, your data may be processed here, but I only use services that comply with GDPR and similar privacy laws.

California Residents: I don't sell your data.

Changes: I may update this policy from time to time. Check the "Last Updated" date at the top to see when it was last revised.

Questions?

I'm a real person and I care about this stuff. If you have questions or concerns about privacy, email me at [email protected] and I'll get back to you.
