The Hidden Hand: The Information War and the Rise of Antisemitic Propaganda

4.5 on Goodreads
125 ratings

An explosive inside look into the highly-planned and well-funded global propaganda campaign to delegitimize Israel and sow the seeds of antisemitism in the aftermath of October 7th.

October 7th, 2023 was a truly horrific day—a day in which Israeli men, women, and children were slaughtered or kidnapped, in the most barbaric fashion possible by the Iran-backed, Gaza-based terrorist group Hamas. The attack set off a bloody war, with profound consequences for both Israelis and Palestinians. That much is well known.

Less known is the propaganda campaign—the narrative war—that also began on that day. Like Hamas’ war on Israel, the narrative war had been in the works for a long time. It took, and continutes to take, planning, organization, and lots of money. Paid protestors. Professional organizers. Top-notch lobby efforts. NGOs, unions, and associations working together like a well-oiled machine. And, of course, messages designed to capture the support of legislators, voters, and the media.

There is little, if anything, organic about this campaign, even if some of its own participants aren’t quite aware of it.

Interestingly, Canada has become ground zero for this international effort, a result of shifting demographics, porous online and physical borders when it comes to foreign interference, lack of political will, and failure to enforce laws that could help prevent the spread of this type of hate. The numbers themselves are astounding, reflecting a growing tide of antisemitism, anti-Zionism, and general intolerance with a brazenness that has not been witnessed before. A country known for its historic support for the Jewish homeland and for Jews in general has become, since October 7th, a place where Jews live in fear, with skyrocketing incidents of vandalism, violence, threats, and intimidation.

A highly successful political strategist, and legal advocate for victims of hate, Warren Kinsella deconstructs the inner workings of this campaign of hate, and pulls no punches as to what is at stake here: the further spread of antisemitism within society—especially amongst the younger generations but certainly not limited to that demographic—and how to offset it.

Warren Kinsella’s book details through interviews with participants in the information war struggle, critically on both sides of the conflict, how the Western press and Western universities have become soldiers in the terrorist campaign against Israel. And how by extension this war is also being fought against the Jewish people. It should be required reading for anyone who has any level of interest in the Palestinian or Israeli cause.

This is a must read for anyone interested in the REAL STORY of the Israel-Gaza situation. Kinsella shows that much of what's shown in the media on this topic is recycled anti-Israel propaganda produced by Hamas's incredibly slick propaganda machine. It should be required reading for politicians at all levels as well as for all journalism professors. It should also be put on the required reading list for all high-school students to help prepare them for the real world.

Kinsella is a respected non-Jewish lawyer, author and journalist.

Should you wish to understand the rise of Antisemitism in our world, this is the book for you. Shocking and reviling role of Iran sponsorship of hate throughout the Muslim communities, brainwashing of Christian universities, the UN, America, Canada and Europe.

Don't buy one copy; buy two and give one to your friends. I never thought I would agree with Warren Kinsella on anything but he nails every topic in this book. I lived in the Middle East for 15 years before I came to Canada. During that time I came to understand the issues between every other Arabic Country and The Islamic Republic of Iran. The storming The Grand Mosque In Mecca in 1979 is a good place to start. This Book is just the latest litany of how Iran is coming after the Saturday People, the Sunday People and the Friday People the don't like. After that everyone is fair game.

Warren's book is 100% Israeli hasbara propaganda trash that's not even worth the paper it's printed on.

Instead read: Theodore Hertzel's The Jewish State / Charles A. Weisman's Who is Esau-Edom / Eustace Mullins The Curse of Canaan / Edward W. Said's Blaming the Victims.

Mostly a great read, seriously undermined by some factual errors

Mostly a really informative book, and I would love to give it five stars, but there are some factual errors that seriously undermine it.

It references beheaded babies in the Hamas October 7th attack, and there is no reliable evidence that this happened and uncritical reference to it undermines the rest of the book (and demonstrates a laziness from the author in critiquing his own biases). Likewise I haven’t seen convincing evidence of ‘rape is resistance’ stickers.

It’s such a shame as the book is generally very informative, but it’s going to be a hard sell to those who should most be reading it when there are these factual inaccuracies.

Although I was familiar with most of the events described in this book, having them placed together and explored in a single narrative was very powerful and helpful. Highly recommend recommended reading to anyone who is interested in better understanding and fighting the surge in antisemitism that has recently occurred in the USA, Canada, and Europe.

An essential read. Just as Edward Said’s books have flooded campus syllabi over the years, I wish this book, almost an antidote, would flood every campus curriculum. Totally wishful thinking. But wish it could happen. Well-researched, well-written. A must-read given all the virulent, distorted and ugly lies about Jews and Israel that have captivated a younger (and deeply misinformed) generation and every corner of social media, the internet, and many traditional news sources.

I’ve been stunned by the absolute deluge of anti-Israel content online, which improbably seemed to rise very shortly after 10/7/23. I’m not talking about criticism of the Israeli gov, but the flood of memes, disinfo that felt more like QAnon/Pizzagate. I’m 1/3 of the way through the book so far, and while there is a clear pro-Israel bias (and honestly, I cringed when Bari Weiss was called “smart”), this book is a thorough and engaging exploration of the origins and motivations of the Israel-Hamas online propaganda war.
